While you’d be hard pressed to find anyone willing to use a known herbicide for medicinal purposes, that hasn’t stopped Monsanto from patenting the star ingredient of their flagship herbicide, Roundup, as a type of antibiotic. In 2003, the corporate giant first submitted a patent for glyphosate as a parasitic control-type antimicrobial agent — or, in other words, a type of antibiotic.

The patent was granted in 2010, and you can view it here. Monsanto patented the combination of glyphosate and polyvalent anion oxalic acid as a method for preventing and treating pathogenic infections like malaria. As the patent explains, parasites from the phylum of Apicomplexa are often responsible for diseases in humans and other animals — and glyphosate is capable of inhibiting the growth of these parasites.

This patent certainly brings even more concerns about the impending Bayer-Monsanto merger, but  more importantly, it raises a significant question: is glyphosate contributing to the proliferation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria?

Study finds glyphosate causes antibiotic resistance

Recent research has revealed that the herbicide could indeed be a contributing factor to the “superbug” epidemic that is being seen around the world. Scientists from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand have piloted new research that shows glyphosate is not just an herbicide, but a potential vector for antibiotic-resistant disease.

The study is the first of its kind. Professor Jack Heinemann, from the university, says that while herbicides may be tested for their ability to kill bacteria, they are not tested for what other effects they may have on microbes.

“We found that exposure to some very common herbicides can cause bacteria to change their response to antibiotics. They often become antibiotic resistant, but we also saw increased susceptibility or no effect. In most cases, we saw increased resistance even to important clinical antibiotics,” Heinemann commented.

The professor went on to explain that their results were so surprising that they enlisted another researcher from a different institution to conduct the same exact experiments in a different environment and without knowing exactly what she was adding to the bacteria, to help ensure the validity of their findings. The research conducted at Massey University yielded the same results as that done by the University of Canterbury.

According to the researchers, the effects they uncovered would be relevant to people and animals who are exposed to pesticides used in similar concentrations to that of what was tested. While the amounts used by the team were of greater concentration than what is currently supposed to be allowed in food — as we all know, the amount of glyphosate residue in and on food often surpasses what is deemed “permissible.” [RELATED: Keep up with the latest herbicide scandals at Glyphosate.news]

As antibiotic resistance continues to grow, the threat that glyphosate poses simply cannot be ignored. The effects of herbicides like glyphosate can have on bacteria are very real — especially given the chemical’s tendency to be intentionally misused by farmers as a desiccant.

Does glyphosate alter healthy bacteria in the gut, too?

Pathogenic bacteria are not the only microbes susceptible to the ill effects of glyphosate. The bacteria that reside in the human gut can also be harmed by the toxic herbicide. The very same shikamate pathway that glyphosate uses to target weeds and pathogenic bacteria species is the same pathway it would use to destroy the friendly and beneficial bacteria that inhabit the intestinal microbiome. This, of course, would come with its own host of adverse health effects.

There is no reason to believe that if glyphosate is capable of killing or altering one type of bacteria, that it would not harm other bacteria via the same pathway. Some research has already alluded to the potential for glyphosate to wreak havoc on the human digestive system. Given that the microbiome is of great importance to overall human health, findings such as this are not surprising: if glyphosate is killing off intestinal bacteria, it stands to reason that may be the first point of disease. Furthermore, some research has shown that glyphosate is capable of altering gut bacteria in other animals — for example, in 2014 German scientists found that glyphosate negatively affected the gut bacteria of cows.

It seems that the more we learn about glyphosate, the more dangerous it becomes.

November 23, 2016

John from http://www.growingyourgreens.com/ shares with you how he got his neighbor to stop using roundup aka Glyphosate and how he made a recipe for a organic weed killer alternative that really works.

Roundup aka Glyphosate is said to be probably carcinogenic to humans. It is also damaging to the health of your soil, and poisonious to many plants. In this episode, you will discover a much safer, natural and organic alternative.

First, John will share with you some edible plants he plants on purpose in his garden that many may consider “weeds”. You will learn how some of these edible wild foods got a little out of control and started spreading out all over.

You will discover how John usually manages his weed issues. Next, you will learn about an organic and natural solution that costs a fraction of synthetic, chemical weed killers.

John will then head over to his neighbors house and share with you what his neighbor thinks of his garden.

Then Don, Johns neighbor will explain to you how to make a simple organic weed killer that can be made with some common ingredients that can be found at any grocery store.

Finally Don and John will talk a little about why its important to use less chemicals and how you can actually save money by becoming a producer in our society instead of a consumer.

After watching this episode, you will have a sure-fire way to kill weeds on your property by using a very simple, non-toxic spray that can be made from common items from a grocery store including: Vinegar, Sugar and Dish Detergent.

Glyphosate Weed Killer Unleashes Grotesque Chemical Deformations In Animals [Photos]

Glyphosate weed killer, heavily used in conjunction with genetically modified crops, is being blamed for a sharp rise in grotesque, horrific animal mutations taking place in Argentina (see horrifying photos below).

While this story will never appear in the corporate-controlled U.S. media, the UK-based Daily Mail reports that the mutations “look like something from a horror movie – a black dog with a mini trunk protruding from its nose. The baby yellow chick with not two but four feet, the spider piglet with one head, two bodies and eight legs, the goat with two heads and the baby pig with skin so wafer thin you can see the muscles and blood flowing around its body.”

“Farmers blame harsh chemical Glyphosate for causing the mutations,” reports the Daily Mail, adding that “local media said that the deformation was due to the use of pesticides on farmland in the region.”

Number of mutations had QUADRUPLED as use of genetically modified crop chemicals increases

Local who were not aware of the toxicity of glyphosate originally thought the mutations were caused by evil spirits or some sort of demonic curve. But “blame has shifted to the widespread use of the harsh chemical glyphosate which is used as a pesticide,” reports Daily Mail UK:

Argentina is the world’s biggest user of the controversial product, which kills all non-genetically modified (GM) crops. The country supplies GM soya beans that are fed to animals in the UK, and cotton that is used in the manufacture of everything from T-shirts through to tampons. EU policy makers are considering banning the harmful chemical which is known to cause serious birth defects in both animals and humans.

The GMO Scrapbook: Did Brussels Just Actually Listen To The European…

THE GMO SCRAPBOOK: DID BRUSSELS JUST ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THE EUROPEAN ...

If you’ve been following the whoel GMO-glyphosphate issue, you’ll be readily aware that the whole scientific method and process has been corrupted by the GMO corporations – a global network of big agribusiness mercantilists that we not-so-lovingly refer to on this website as “I.G. Farbensanto”, or Mon(ster)santo, or DuPontzanto, Syncrudda, and a variety of other accurate names to denote both the quality of their products, and the caliber of their morals and business ethics. To be blunt, and as most readers of this and other websites that are devoted to the subject of GMOs, the corporate-sponsored “science” proving the safety of their own products (big surprise, huh?) has been challenged by a number of independent scientists conducting their own studies (most especially in France, where these studies were legally challenged and vindicated).  Well, there may have been another setback for I.G. Farbensanto in, of all places, Brussels, the center of that bureaucratic-technocratic nightmare misnamed the European “Union”, according to this article shared by Ms. M.W., and written by F. William Engdahl, one of our favorite researchers and commentators on the subject:

Dramatic Turn in Brussels Glyphosate Battle

First, you’ll note the reference to those bothersome French studies that IG Farbensanto tried to kill (indeed, we wonder why it didn’t simply assassinate Dr. Seralini, who conducted them):

The true secret of the toxic danger of GMO crops in the animal and human food chain is gradually coming to light. It is becoming clearer that perhaps as much or even more a toxic danger for human and animal consumption of GMO corn, soy products and other GMO varieties, are the chemicals the GMO seeds are by contract agreement necessarily mated with. No farmer anywhere in the world is allowed to buy Monsanto GMO “Roundup Ready” seeds without at the same time signing a binding contract to annually buy and use Monsanto glyphosate-based Roundup weed killer. In fact, the only trait that Monsanto Roundup Ready corn or soybeans are genetically modified for is to resist the toxic killing effect of Roundup while every living biological matter around not “glyphosate resistant” is killed.

A Vent On Glyphosate

[Editor’s Note]
This is a salient and still important piece shared recently by someone in respect to the ubiquitous and noxious herbicide glyphosate.  Glyphosate is used in an enormous amount of pesticides worldwide.  Given this, people should be cognizant of the possible dangers they might be facing if exposed to such a potential carcinogen.

Take the spotlight away from Deflategate and aim it at glyphosate, an active ingredient in Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup since the 1970s. Around for over 40 years, glyphosate has found its way into our drinking water like many other toxic byproducts from the creations of our esteemed chemists. I am not denigrating innovation, I am just venting my frustration over the paradoxical mess we, as a society, have gotten ourselves into. We want to make great discoveries, such as controlling the growth of our crops to feed the masses. But like mass production of clothes, quality can be compromised.

I started to write about glyphosate after reading an article by Dr. Mercola about GMO labeling across the U.S. The article reported that the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization declared glyphosate a “probable carcinogen.” Intrigued, I went to IARC’s website to learn more about it and landed on its Home page. Because the organization’s specialty is cancer, there were various articles about the subject.

A press release dated 1/13/15 caught my eye. The lead-in read: “Most types of cancer are not due to ‘bad luck’—IARC responds to scientific article claiming that environmental and lifestyle factors account for less than one third of cancers.”

After reading the release, I was not surprised about IARC’s conclusion, which was “. . . a majority of the most common cancers occurring worldwide are strongly related to environmental and lifestyle exposures. In principle, therefore, these cancers are preventable; based on current knowledge, nearly half of all cancer cases worldwide can be prevented. This is supported in practice by rigorous scientific evidence showing decreases in cancer incidence after preventive interventions. . . .”

EXCLUSIVE: Quaker Instant Oatmeal & Silk Non-GMO Soy Milk Found Contaminated With Alarming Levels Of Glyphosate Weed Killer…And They Are Not Even Genetically Modified Foods!

According to glyphosate laboratory testing conducted at Microbe Inotech Laboratories, Inc., in St. Louis, the Quaker Instant Oatmeal (Strawberries and Cream) sample tested at the lab contains an astonishing 1,327.1 ppb (parts per billion) of glyphosate weed killer.

The test results, achieved via the ELISA methodology (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay), are astonishing for two reasons:

1) They are extremely high, far surpassing the levels of glyphosate that have so far been detected in other foods.

2) Oats are not GMO! While glyphosate might be expected at some concentrations in GM soy and other herbicide resistant crops, very few people are aware that glyphosate is being routinely sprayed on wheat, barley and oat crops as a powerful desiccant, right before harvest.

Organic brands were far cleaner

By comparison, Nature’s Path Organic Instant Oatmeal — produced by a cereal company that meticulously avoids GMOs and toxic agricultural chemicals — showed a final test result of “less than 75 ppb” which could mean essentially zero. For grains, anything below 75 ppb is below the LoD (Limit of Detection) for the ELISA methodology.

The testing was commissioned by the Alliance for Natural Health (ANH-USA), which tested 24 popular breakfast foods and found glyphosate concentrations in 11 of those samples. ANH-USA has also released a video on the subject, entitled “Are You Eating Glyphosate For Breakfast?” (The answer is probably YES…)

“We decided to do this testing to see just how ubiquitous this toxin has become in our environment. We expected that trace amounts would show up in foods containing large amounts of corn and soy,” explained Gretchen DuBeau, executive and legal director of ANH-USA. “However, we were unprepared for just how invasive this poison has been to our entire food chain.”

See the brand names of the products that tested positive for glyphosate

ANH-USA results, found at this link, use generic descriptors of food samples, without their brand names. But Natural News can now exclusively report the brand names behind these foods which tested positive for glyphosate, according to lab results provided to Natural News:

1327.1 ppb – Quaker Instant Oatmeal, Strawberries and Cream
491.9 ppb – Thomas’s Whole Wheat Bagels
151.5 ppb – Rudio Multibagels
403.0 ppb – Pepperidge Farm Whole GrainBread, 100% Whole Wheat
136.4 ppb – Dave’s Killer Whole Wheat Bread
34.4 ppb – OreIda Hash Brown Potatoes
24.1 ppb – Russet Potato
260.6 ppb – Cream of Wheat Hot Cereal Whole Grain
104 ppb – 365 Coffee Creamer
86 ppb – Original Silk Soy Creamer Non GMO

In addition, results of over 100 ppb were also found in eggs, but extracting glyphosate from eggs hasn’t yet been validated with the ELISA method, so we’re not including those results here.

Silk, Whole Foods’ 365, Pepperidge Farm, Thomas’s and other brands all named

Many consumers will be extremely surprised — perhaps “shocked” is a better descriptor — to learn that “Silk” brand non-GMO soy milk still contains glyphosate, according to these test results.

Whole Foods’ 365 brand was also found to contain a significant concentration of glyphosate, as was Cream of Wheat hot cereal, which is mostly made of wheat (which is also non-GMO).

Thus, the disturbing upshot of these tests is that even non-GMO crops can be saturated with glyphosate weed killer chemicals. This includes oats, wheat, barley and other crops.

Glyphosate is currently listed as “probably carcinogen” by the IARC — meaning these health experts believe there is credible evidence that it causes cancer. Click here for the IARC’s report and conclusions.

Because of its toxicity, glyphosate is being aggressively outlawed by various countries around the world such as The Netherlands and Sri Lanka, to name a few.
