10 years ago, everybody was on MySpace. 10 years from now, the Twitters and Facebooks and YouTubes of today will be dinosaurs, abandoned by users sick of censorship and centralized control. Thankfully, the alternatives to these social media dinosaurs are already here, and they’re blockchain-based, torrent friendly, decentralized and censorship resistant.

The new mandate is: throw off the tattered tasseled layers of horseshit.

The bottom line: we are the real movement.

We’re the people who have the job of exposing big-time mainstream news as the frauds they are.

Along the way, we’ve encountered some strange ghouls and goblins. Just to sketch in a few recent editions:

Scott Pelley (CBS) is careful to watch himself. His tendency is to shove the message down the viewer’s throat like a pro surgeon making an incision without bothering to administer an anesthetic. Pelley’s been working to correct that. He’s a high-IQ android who’s training himself to be human. It’s not going well.

Diane (formerly of ABC) “don’t cry for me, America” Sawyer wandered into sloppiness. She poured syrup on her words, as if she’d had a few cocktails before breakfast. She affected a pose of “caring too much” and “refusing to apologize for it”—“I’m suffering for humanity and I won’t cover it up.” Sniff, sniff.

Before being put out to dry for lying about being shot at in Iraq, Brian Williams (NBC) was head and shoulders above his competitors. You had to look and listen very hard to spot even a speck of confusion in his delivery. He knew exactly how to believe his act was real. He could also flick a little aw-shucks apple-pie at the viewer. Country boy who moved to the big city.

Of course, Brian is now back. His bosses let him sneak in the side door at MSNBC, the only major news channel with ratings lower than Howdy Doody reruns.

Brian just let loose with a sober reasoned criticism of “fake news sites” the other day, claiming the real news has a responsibility to shoulder the load of truth. He neglected to mention he was kicked out of the news business for spreading fake news about himself—but no problem, the past is dead, and he’s a new man thanks to the love of his family and his deep reflections on character, mission, devotion, fidelity, and shilling for his masters…

Those are a few ghouls among many.

We are in the middle of the death throes of the old guard, and we need to recognize that. They’re going away. Independent media are taking over. It’s called decentralization.

Blackouts and censorship are the only weapons they have left. And guess how they’re trying to make that happen? They’re appealing to social media—Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and Google (which through its rankings is a form of social media). Amazing. Social media numbers are far higher than those of major newspapers and television news.

On the Fade to Black show (twitter: #f2b) with host Jimmy Church on Jimmy Church Radio last night (I have a regular Thursday slot, 10:30 – 11:00pm ET), I discussed the death-rattle of major media. Host Jimmy Church made an interesting point. When CNN started out as the first 24/7 all-news global network, they were the “rebels.” They were the new faces and the interlopers, and they were hell-bent on muscling into the game. (Of course, their predilection for honesty was just another con.) Eventually, they turned into the media giants they purportedly hated. And now, with their ratings in the tank, they can’t go back. They’re trapped. They can’t reinvent themselves as new kids on the block. They’re slow, they’re Clinton fellow travelers, they’re racists accusing other people of being racists, they’re basically a bunch of miscreants who—if they didn’t have their jobs—would be lucky to land gigs pumping gas in Death Valley. It’s a sight to behold.

For the most part, FOX, another upstart, became a parade of young blondes who, one after another, rose and then fell. Remembering their names was like remembering winners of the Miss America pageant. Megyn Kelly, the latest edition, thinks she’s immune from that fate. Watch out, M. A few years from now, you could become just another tired face on one of the major network’s morning gab shows, listening attentively to some tattooed teen rocker talk about the drop of his latest album, his interest in wildlife sanctuaries, and his love of brisket sandwiches from some NYC deli 300 million Americans have never heard of.

You have a choice. You can read, listen to, and watch any of a hundred thousand sites and blogs for your news, or you can attach yourself like a barnacle to the slow moving spewing ships of state/corporate media.

You can hope that the consensus status quo will hold, and reality will basically remain unchanged, or you can dump that fairy tale.

You can believe that all significant events on this planet emerge organically/randomly/accidentally, or you can investigate the concept that elite groups are steering us toward their New World, because they live for control.

You can live in a hazy gauzy dream that siphons away your energy, or you can embark on a new course of adventure that strips away the veneer and the shadows.

You can believe you are helpless before larger forces, or you can invent a different vision for yourself.

You can raise your children to be pawns, or you can inspire them with the knowledge of their own freedom and power.

You can “leave things to others,” or you can join in the fray.

You can claim you don’t know what to do, or you can figure out what to do on your own.

When I started this site in 2001, I shoved in all my chips on the idea that there were MANY individuals out there who could re-grasp their own power and figure out what to do on their own.

I haven’t moved off that premise. And I won’t.

I welcome the old layer of media reality being stripped away, because that leaves the individual in charge.

Toss that old chunk of mind control and hypnosis into the garbage and cross the threshold into a new time. The time you make.

Don’t complain, don’t explain. You’re the new elite.

Accept it.

An elite without the desire to control others. An elite based on merit. An elite based on life-force showing up when you know the future is unwritten.

Is that too much to ask?

I don’t think so. I don’t think so at all.

The game is afoot. The game is always afoot. If you can see it.

The EU Is Warning American Tech Giants to Crack Down on Hate Speech Now  …  “They will have to act quickly and make a strong effort in the coming months.” U.S. tech giants including Facebook, Twitter, Google’s YouTube and Microsoft will have to act faster to tackle online hate speech or face laws forcing them to do so, the European Commission said on Sunday. -Reuters

Western governments are censoring speech in Europe and the US, an obvious pattern that clearly shows coordination.

In the US, there is a congressional effort to fund intel agencies that will investigate alternative media for ties to Russian propaganda. Such investigations , if they occur, will  retard this sector and make further, free-reporting difficult.

In Europe, efforts to control speech and reporting are actually being aimed at American communication enterprises such as Google, YouTube and Microsoft (see excerpt above).

The European Union (EU) executive’s warning comes six months after the companies signed up to a voluntary code of conduct to take action in Europe within 24 hours, following rising concerns triggered by the refugee crisis and terror attacks.

This included removing or disabling access to the content if necessary, better cooperation with civil society organizations and the promotion of “counter-narratives” to hate speech.

The code of conduct is largely a continuation of efforts that the companies already take to counter hate speech on their websites, such as developing tools for people to report hateful content and training staff to handle such requests.

Top powers in the US and Europe will not likely admit coordination to crack down on Internet news and views but this is obviously what’s happening.

It is true that European censorship justifications have a longer history. Complaints about terrorism and hate speech have been voiced for several years. In the US, the sudden emergence of concern over Russian influence on ‘Net-based media is a new phenomenon.

Nonetheless, the House has just passed a bill to fund investigations into Russian influence on American media (see here). Such investigations might involve the tracking of so-called Alt.right “hate speech” as well.

Western efforts to “control” the Internet will no doubt adopt certain Chinese solutions over time. In China the Internet is actively being used as an agency of repression. Citizens are to receive ‘Net-based “grades” based on docility and how well they obey laws and generally fit in.

The larger question as governments crack down on ‘Net-based speech is whether or not people’s awareness of what is actually going on in their societies will transcend censorship.

History seems to show that after the Gutenberg Press launched an explosion of new ideas in printed form it took Western governments (and the controllers behind them) many centuries to regain control – 400 or 500 years as a matter of fact.

Western governments face similar problems now. A whole generation of individuals has absorbed a new way of thinking promulgated by the ‘Net. This is one reason approval of mainstream media is in the single digits while up to 50 percent or more (in the US, anyway) admit to belief in “conspiracy theories” – versions of important events not dictated by government and secret forces operating behind government.

In aggregate these views posit a different society than the current one. Today’s society is an outgrowth of World War II reorganization and depends heavily on the dictates of massive governments and even larger corporate enterprises.

‘Net-based alternative sociopolitical organization tends to criticize such titanic social solutions and is often more libertarian based. The idea is that culture ought to dictate social organization and economic, political and even military control ought to be organized from the ground up instead of top down.

These two models are on a collision course. Despite the intention of elites to wipe out the emergence of alternate thinking regarding social control, the insights that have been re-established via Internet communication are not going to easily or rapidly dissipate. In fact, censorship will likely reinforce their validity and emphasize their credibility.

A whole different world view is now part of people’s consciousness, certainly in the West and likely elsewhere too, even China. Such alternative insights about money, power and politics are extraordinarily difficult to eradicate. Ideas of freedom, local authority and individual responsibility are not easily stamped out once they have gained – or regained – credence.

In this case, the Western intelligentsia has been reawakened en masse to an alternative cultural model that has its roots in thousands of years of practice and application. These cultural solutions stand clearly in opposition to the current sociopolitical formula that emphasizes bigness and technocratic authoritarianism.

Anti-war, pro-individual freedom, private money and private justice, these precepts have found their way into intellectual circulation once more. They are extraordinarily compelling and will continue to have an influence far beyond what is easily apparent.

As this article was being posted, ZeroHedge reported that Naked Capitalism’s Yves Smith threatened The Washington Post with a defamation suit and demanded a retraction for reporting that the website was in league with Russian interests. We’re actually surprised a class action lawsuit hasn’t been launched as numerous websites have been smeared by these accusations. Could such a lawsuit be aimed at Congress as well (despite sovereign immunity)?

Conclusion: History may well repeat in the 21st century, but not necessarily in ways current elites are hoping.

Slate makes up news about Twitter, Facebook banning Trump

We all know by now that the tech giants of Silicon Valley are in bed with the government and they’re not afraid to censor posts they disagree with from their social media platforms. Free Speech Isn’t Facebook’s Job  … My instinct as a First Amendment teacher is to be outraged at Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Microsoft for knuckling under to European Commission pressure to ban hate speech on their platforms. But after sleeping on it, I think it’s fine.    Here’s why: These social media giants are private actors, not the state. –Bloomberg

We disagree with Bloomberg. Facebook is not a private sector actor. If it were up to us, Facebook would be shut down.

It was funded by the CIA which has surely participated in its success around the world.

It’s not really a company. It’s a facility of American  imperialism.

By carefully tracking who knows whom, Facebook can generate groups of related individuals. These groups can be useful to the FBI, CIA and other intelligence outfits.

And Facebook does plenty of other kinds of spying. That’s the reason it’s always getting caught collecting customer data.

That’s the reason it encourages liberal – statist – reporting on its sites.

It’s primarily a vast spying operation.

That’s not how this Bloomberg editorial sees it. The Bloomberg editorial takes these big companies at face value. But these companies would not exist without state power and authoritarian judicial decisions.

They are puffed up by “corporation personhood,” intellectual property rights and monopoly fiat money.

Without these three “legs of the stool” there would be no multinationals. The problems of corporate bigness would not exist.

Marry the CIA and its vast panoply of violent influence peddling to state judicial power and here is the unholy spawn: social networks.

How can anyone maintain they are in any way products of the “marketplace.”

[Social media giants]  can’t be trusted to protect free speech, nor is it their obligation, whether in Europe or the U.S. Those of us who care about preserving free speech need to keep that in mind, while maintaining other venues for free speech that aren’t controlled by private companies.

The editorial goes on to mention “The Code of Conduct on Countering Illegal Hate Speech Online,” recently posted by the European Commission.

It is a voluntary code but one that the article explains has placed pressure on big Internet vendors like Facebook and Google.

In fact, this entire hate-speech campaign in Europe is reminiscent of George Orwell’s 1984. Juveniles convicted of committing “hate speech crimes” will undergo a rehabilitation program that supposedly will make them more tolerant.

It’s a horrible evolution of censorship in every sense of the word. And the code has received a lot of attention because the big Internet vendors will have to use their own judgment about what constitutes “hate speech.”

The editorial tells us that “independent nongovernmental organizations” shall partner with the big firms to figure out what to remove.

But the companies themselves will have the final say.

The editorial doesn’t find this objectionable because private companies manage customer activities all the time.

The editorial also tells us that big companies have presented themselves as “neutral platforms,” responsible to shareholders not customers.

The editorial’s “upshot” is that “we need to keep an eye on free speech by assuring that there are vehicles for self-expression that aren’t completely controlled by private actors.”

But a company like Facebook is not responsible to its shareholders. If CEO Mark Zuckerberg were to stop collecting information for the CIA, he would be shoved rudely out the door or worse.

When it comes to US security interests, Facebook, Google and all the rest are primarily civilian arms of US intelligence agencies. Their “shareholders” take a back seat.
