1st Quantum Link Between Banks In Russia

Over the years, as we’ve been watching the emerging of the Shanghai Cooperation organization (a.k.a. the BRICSA bloc), and the Chinese Silk Road project, I and many others have been arguing that if the project is to be genuinely viable and an alternative to the American unipolarism generally, and its virtual monopoly on international financial clearing particularly, it will have to be buttressed by its own international financial clearing system, one moreover both secure and free from meddling by the powers it serves, trust being the key issue for the users of such a system.

There are potentially other factors in play for the creation of such a system, and those are the potentialities of a threat from space. In the event of hostilities engulfing space – human or otherwise – redundancy in the international clearing systems is a must.

With that in mind, Russia just took another major step in fleshing out the parameters of that system, and a major step as well in securing its domestic clearing operations, according to this Sputnik article shared by Ms. S.:

Russian Physicists Create First Working Secure Quantum Link Between Two Banks

What’s notable here is that while China has been perfecting the space-to-ground and ground-to-space links for quantum communications systems, Russia appears to have concentrated on actual practical systems for current financial and institutional use:

Sberbank became the first company to receive the new quantum protection system, developed by the Moscow-based Russian Quantum Center (RQC). According to RQC general-director Ruslan Yunusov, the service is now ready for widespread use by companies and organizations.

Physicists and engineers from RQC have launched the first working quantum link between two Sberbank branches, transferring real financial data using highly a secure connection, the research organization’s press service has reported.

“Thanks to quantum communication technology, we have provided for a high frequency of key generation, thus dramatically increasing the level of data protection. Russian organizations will get the opportunity to use a system created in our own country to protect their information, which is important for the state,” Yunusov said.

The special, 25 km-long line between Sberbank’s central office and a branch near the city center is protected via the phenomenon of quantum entanglement.(Empasis added)
It’s that intriguing point about using hardware developed in Russia to create what may very well be the first commercial and operational such link that caught my eye, and prompts today’s high octane speculation. Why? Consider the Russian achievement in the wider context of two stories that emerged last year: (1) the Chinese success with quantum communications between the Earth and space and vice versa, and (2) India’s space program’s feat of a mass launch of small satellites – nearly fifty – in the short span of two weeks, and almost mind-boggling administrative and technical achievement.
It’s when one puts these three things together and “views them whole” that one gets an intriguing possible picture, a picture of strategized coordination between the three major BRICS bloc powers, and the build-out of a system of financial clearing. If that high octane speculative read of the situation is true, then it appears that China is testing the space-based -high tech components, Russia is testing the ground-based inter-institutional links, and India is testing the ability to deploy massive space assets quickly and – as it were – suddenly. China has already built its CIPS clearing system, and we could be looking at something posed for something much bigger…
What might that be?
Well, to crawl way out on the end of the twig of speculation, perhaps it might be the building of interplanetary aspects of financial clearing. Think about it: we’ve seen stories of asteroid minining, space mining, NASA wanting broadband internet on the Moon and (eventually) Mars, and don’t think for a moment India, China, and Russia intend on being left out.
See you on the flip side…

USS Fitzgerald The Victim Of An Electromagnetic Warfare Attack

If you’ve been following the developing theories about the USS Fitzgerald ramming in Japan, you’ll be interested in this article shared by Mr. D.F.(copy and paste into your browser:

Stealth Attack On USS Fitzgerald Proves US Navy No Longer Controls Seven Seas

The article reiterates many of the points I argued in my own previous comments on this incident, namely, that I find it difficult to rationalize a collision with a US Navy frigate due to simple incompetence for a variety of reasons. Ships just don’t “sneak up” on other ships. Collisions of ships do happen, of course, on occasion. And the results can be tragic (think only of the Andrea Doria). But in the main, a ship venturing into the “danger” zone of any nation’s warships would be hailed, warned off, quarters sounded, and evasive action taken.

But as far as I am able to tell, none of this apparently happened with the Fitzgerald, if the various internet reports, such as the above, are to be believed.

Assuming that they are, the report argues more or less as I did previously, that in the absence of clear explanations, we must assume that the steerage and other operational and communications systems of the vessel were not operational, for whatever reason. Why, for example, was the captain still apparently asleep? Under circumstances of a potential collision or threat to the ship, again, evasive action would have been ordered and the captain woken up and notified. This implies that it was not possible to move the ship nor wake the captain through the internal communication system.

But toward the end of this strange article – and again, I am not familiar with this website, nor its reliability. I am presenting it for your consideration, as I know many readers here are following this story – we have the following:

The first time the container ship approached the USS Fitzgerald, the Fitz was still fully functional.

An airplane or drone flying overhead was responsible for the energy pulse that killed all electricity on the warship. (the whole event took place in the wee hours of the morning from 1:30 to 2:20 AM)

The container ship was required to turn back toward the Fitzgerald to do its job as commanded by whoever EMPulsed the ship.

In turning back to do the “job” the container ship did not have great positioning to destroy the vessel and so ended up only disabling rather than sinking the thing.

Thus, the CIA-planned story (aka false flag attack) could not be used as many on board the Fitzgerald saw what really happened, and survived.

The CIA plot was probably an attack by Russia or China or NK.  A contingency plan was then quickly implemented; one that they could feed to those present as a legitimate story.

The bottom line here is that this attack was quite likely a false flag operation in the tradition of the USS Maine (“Remember the Maine!”), the RMS Lusitania (World War I false flag), and the USS Maddox (aka the Gulf of Tonkin incident).

Conclusion

Either someone wants war.  Or, someone else seeks to prevent war.

While this attack on the USS Fitzgerald appears to be a typical CIA-coordinated false flag attack designed to start a war, it appears to have been a real attack perpetrated to prevent one.

In other words, it was a conspiracy within a conspiracy, and/or a false flag within a false flag. Yes, it’s really that complicated.  As it frequently when one camp is trying to start a war as aggressively as the other side is working to avert one.

To my knowledge, no one from government, or corporate controlled media, has yet even stated that this was an attack: the “attack” hypothesis seems to be largely concentrated – at present – in the free and independent media.

The scenario is, however, worth noting, because as the article itself avers, the incident could be seen as a part of a wider pattern of such electromagnetic interference with US forces, beginning with the now infamous Donald Cook incident, to the alleged Russian defeat of NATO communications systems in Syria shortly after that nation’s intervention there, to a repeat of the Donald Cook incident, involving the Donald Cook once again, this time, in the Baltic Sea with yet another Russian Sukhoi-22 fighter-bomber. While I have not seen corroboration of the allegation that there was an airplane overhead during the incident, there would not need to be, if indeed this was an electromagnetic attack, which for the reasons outlined above I believe it to be. Such an attack could have come from the container ship itself or other nearby vessels, and perhaps even from the shore.

For my two cents’ worth of high octane speculation, however, I have difficulty believing this was a CIA plot that was also, as the article states “an attack by Russia or China or (North Korea).” This would imply the CIA is in cahoots with those nations in an overly complicated plot to start a war. While I don’t put anything past the departments and agencies of the federal swamp and believe they’re pretty much capable of anything in spite of the many good people in government, I just find that one a bit too much to swallow.

What I don’t have difficult swallowing, however, is the possibility that those nations may have learned of a plot, or course of action. After all, the US Navy has recently deployed three carrier battle groups to that region, which is an enormous concentration of naval power usually presaging some sort of American action.

Then…

… the electronics system, and maybe even the steerage system, of an expensive frigate fails…

completely.

And that translates into the message that the article begins with: “your navy may not be in as solid control of the sea lanes as you think it is.” And that means the same might go for (1) aircraft, and more importantly (2) space-based assets, if a similar electromagnetic platform exists in space, or on the ground capable of reaching space. And that means in turn, those “smart bombs” may not work too well, and it may be rather difficult moving troops and supplies to deal with “threats.”

Of course, for years, there have been rumors that the Russians have very advanced electronic warfare systems, rumors which the Russians from time to time have “stoked.” Shortly after the first incident with the Donald Cook, Russian television aired a one hour review of some of those systems – no doubt for the deliberate attention of analysts in the Pentagram – and the effect of that broadcast was that it gave the impression that this electronic warfare interference with missile systems would make them behave like wildly misfiring bottle rockets, going off crazily in all directions… everywhere, but on target.

It’s a very Russian sort of approach to such things. The American anti-missile system is, we’ve been told, one of the approach of hitting a bullet with a bullet. The Russian anti-missile system approach is simple to interfere with the flight path by whatever means, including scrambling the electronics and turning expensive American rockets into crazy bottlerockets.

In any case, messages are being sent, and it’s interesting to note that, for a brief moment, things quieted down after the Fitzgerald incident.

Russian Engineers Want To Orbit Reflective Pyramid Satellite

July 1, 2017

This website, in case you didn’t know, has a Community forum where people also post conversational items, articles, or just carry on a conversation with whoever else is there.  Well, I saw this strange article there posted by Mr. T.H., who shared it with the forum, and I want to post it here and talk about it in my high octane speculation of the day.  Here’s the article:

Russian Satellite Could Become The “Brightest Star” In Our Night Sky

Now, as one can imagine, here’s the part that caught my eye:

The small spacecraft, roughly the size of a loaf of bread, will unfurl a giant pyramid-shaped solar reflector in orbit, with the aim of shining brighter than any other star. The reflector, 16 square meters (170 square feet) in size, is supposedly 20 times thinner than human hair, made of a thin polymer film. This spacecraft doesn’t have any other scientific purpose, although the team notes that a similar structure could be used to remove defunct satellites from orbit.

“We want to show that space exploration is something exciting and interesting, but most importantly that today it is accessible to everybody who is interested,” project leader Alexander Shaenko said, reported Sputnik News.

The team is planning to place the spacecraft in a Sun-synchronous orbit 600 kilometers (370 miles) above the ground. This means it will always be in sunlight, and thus will always be shining in the night sky at different locations as Earth rotates. At this height, the spacecraft will also be able to avoid large effects from atmospheric drag, so it could feasibly orbit for weeks, months, or even years.

Of course, the word “pyramid” immediately captured my interest, and I have all sorts of “high octane fantasias” running through my head, but let’s talk about that reflective coating; the satellite, we’re told, will be about the size of a small loaf of bread, which will then unfurl “a giant pyramid-shaped solar reflector” in orbit.  Other than this, we’re not told much about the proposed function of the satellite other than to “look bright” and, by implication, “be fun and interesting to do.”

Uh huh…

Now, I don’t know about you, but I for one have some difficulty believing that the Russians would launch a big pyramid-shaped satellite just for kicks and giggles and to provide a nice “Nightlight in the sky.” Perhaps this is the latest component of their highly successful World Election Hacking System. Perhaps it’s some component of an illumination system designed for other purposes, such as blinding the optics of other satellites (ours for example), or some sort of “searchlight” for small but potentially dangerous near Earth objects. After all, Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev, you’ll recall, back before the Chelyabinsk meteor incident, called for an international asteroid detection and defense system, but if others did not want to join, then Russia would just have to “do it all itself.”

Curiously, Mr. Medvedev, you’ll also recall, also stated that Russia could destroy dangerous asteroids busting them up with missiles carrying large hydrogen bombs (ala the Bruce Willis movie Armageddon).  Then, however, he went on to say something in a kind of “oh, hydrogen-bombs-are-so-yesterday” moment, namely, that there were “other means” of busting large rocks in space.

And that of course opened up all sorts of doors for high octane speculation, which I’m sure the remarks were designed to do, and I gladly walked through them then, and do so again now, for I propose to connect Mr. Medvedev’s remarks from those years ago, to this strange story today, and concentrate, not on the reflection properties, but the pyramid shape.

Many people do not know that during the 1960s-1970s and even into the 1980s, the Soviet Union conducted a number of very secret projects in what we would loosely and generally call the “paranormal”. One of these very top secret projects was the “pyramid power project.” Yes, that’s right; the Russians had a top secret project, lasting many years, exploring the alleged strange powers of pyramids for good and ill. To this end, they constructed a number of tall, slim fiberglass pyramids all over Russia. Some are still standing outside of Moscow today, and are a kind of tourist-curiosity destination. To my knowledge, this is the only known official state project investigating pyramid power; I know of no similar such project in any other major power, ever.  (Indeed, I first learned of the project before it became more openly known, from a Russian Orthodox priest that was then a friend of mine.)

As I outlined in The Giza Death Star Destroyed, some of these projects were very revealing, and their scope – I am convinced – is not fully known to this day. But one of the significant things that came from this research was the finding, discussed in some papers by the Ukrainian physicist Volodymyr Krasnoholovets, that for some reason the pyramid shape seems to influence the vacuum energy directly. They found – or at least, claimed to have found – that the pyramid geometry was engineering the fabric of the physical medium locally. Strange energy upwellings appeared over the apexes of their pyramids. They discovered, also, that tall “thin” pyramids acted more as antennae for these strange energies, while flatter pyramids acted as collectors of it. Strangely enough, they also found that the height-to-width ratio of the Great Pyramid fulfilled both functions.

So I have to wonder, of course, if this “pyramid satellite project” is a part of those experiments; it certainly seems to suggest that the Soviet Pyramid Project didn’t completely end with the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the disclosure of the existence of the project, and that it may be moving into space. If indeed the alleged discoveries of “medium-manipulating” characteristics of the pyramid shape are true, it stands to reason they would want to study those properties in the low-to-zero gravity context of space itself. The reflective coating would also correlate to other pyramid investigations – those of the American engineer Parr, for example – where the position of the sun, incoming solar energy, and so on, played a major role.

In short, for those who’ve been paying attention to this strange area of research, there is probably much more going on here than meets the eye.

See you on the flip side…

More Russia Sanctions From The US = Deteriorating Relations With…

Source: GizaDeathStar.com
Dr. Joseph P. Farrell Ph.D.
June 19, 2017

A few days ago I blogged (finally!) about my long-held suspicions that the USA was waging some sort of quiet economic warfare against Germany. It’s a suspicion I’ve had for some time, and even on occasion discussed it in private with various colleagues. Certainly there is something going on, given the strange “German” presence on the fringes of some well-known and tragic events. Consider only the presence of Andreas Strassmeir in the Oklahoma City Bombing, or the strange German connections in the 9/11 event(notice I’m carefully avoiding JFK). Since then, we’ve seen various fines levied against Germany’s, and Europe’s, largest bank, Deutsche Bank, in an almost steady stream, to the point one almost begins to ask “How much will Deutsche Bank be fined by the USA this week?” Then, of course, we’ve also seen various fines imposed against German automakers, and so on.

Then came the Ukrainian mess, the US-sponsored-and-led coup, the Russian reaction, and a strange set of behavior from Chancellorin Merkel, who seemed initially to be all for the Ukrainian adventure of the USA, until it became apparent that Germany wasn’t going to profit very much from the results. Then she “took charge” and attempted to negotiate directly with Mr. Putin, taking her vice-chancellor, Monsieur Hollande, in two to make it look all “trans-European” and “international”.

While all that was going on, Frau Merkel was publicly all aboard with the sanctions against Russia, notwithstanding it hurt Germany’s economy, and in the meantime, she continued to press ahead with energy pipelines with Russia, while German Laender politicians made their way to Moscow, defying Berlin, to reassure the Russians that they wanted to return to “normal”(meaning, no sanctions), and this was followed by similar assurances from German big business.

But more recently, things seem to be breaking out into the open in a much more blatant fashion, for Germany at least, seems unwilling to soft-peddle the matter anymore: Frau Merkel has come out recently and stated that the UK and USA are no longer “reliable allies” and, never one to let slip an opportunity to call for more “Europeanism”, has called for more effort on defense, not only from EU members (like her own country) but from the EU itself.

The US Senate last week passed a new bill, imposing more sanctions on Russia and hand-tying the Trump administration from relaxing any sanction without Senate approval; only senators Rand Paul(R-Kentucky) and Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont) voted against the measure.

But sanctions against Russia are also impositions on Germany, and something tells me that Germany will not act to impose similar measures as the U.S. Senate. The following article from Zero Hedge, shared by Mr. H.B., says why:

Germany, Austria Slam US Sanctions Against Russia, Warn Of Collapse In Relations

The first four paragraphs are worth pondering carefully:

Less than a day after the Senate overwhelmingly voted to impose new sanctions against the Kremlin, on Thursday Germany and Austria – two of Russia’s biggest energy clients in Europe – slammed the latest U.S. sanctions against Moscow, saying they could affect European businesses involved in piping in Russian natural gas.

Shortly after the Senate voted Wednesday to slap new sanctions on key sectors of Russia’s economy over “interference in the 2016 U.S. elections” and aggression in Syria and Ukraine, in a joint statement Austria’s Chancellor Christian Kern and Germany’s Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said it appeared that the Senate bill was aimed at securing US energy jobs and pushing out Russian gas deliveries to Europe.

Gabriel and Kern also accused the U.S. of having ulterior motives in seeking to enforce the energy blockade, which they said is trying to help American natural gas suppliers at the expense of their Russian rivals. And they warned the threat of fining European companies participating in the Nord Stream 2 project “introduces a completely new, very negative dimension into European-American relations.”

In their forceful appeal, the two officials urged the United States to back off from linking the situation in Ukraine to the question of who can sell gas to Europe. “Europe’s energy supply is a matter for Europe, and not for the United States of America,” Kern and Gabriel said. The reason why Europe is angry Some Eastern European countries, including Poland and Ukraine, fear the loss of transit revenue if Russian gas supplies don’t pass through their territory anymore once the new pipeline is built.

While the diplomats said that it was important for Europe and the US to form a united front on the issue of Ukraine, “we can’t accept the threat of illegal and extraterritorial sanctions against European companies,” the two officials warned citing a section of the bill that calls for the United States to continue to oppose the Nord Stream 2 pipeline that would pump Russian gas to Germany beneath the Baltic Sea.

Looked at from the context of my hypothesis that some sort of covert war has been taking place between the USA and Germany, the Senate measure is as much as a levying on sanctions on Germany as it is on Russia, and can be viewed – from a much longer historical perspective – as the continuation of British policy, first enunciated by Halford MacKinder, to prevent any alliance of German industry with Russian resources, the “nightmare scenario” of the late nineteenth early-twentieth century geopoliticians. Indeed, I am not the only one thinking and seeing things this way, for the Austrian Chancellor and German Foreign Minister have said as much when they stated “We can’t accept the threat of illegal and extraterritorial sanctions against European companies.”

In other words, Europe may have just signaled that the days of Washington imposing economic policies on everyone else are over.

Washington’s heavy-handedness with Russia, coupling the sanctions to the Ukraine, is having diametrically the opposite geopolitical effect than what is needed: it is driving Germany, and hence Europe, away, and this is geopolitical folly of a very high order: if the current BRICSA Bloc – India, China, Russia in particular – is a bloc we need to be cautious about, adding Germany and Europe to that mix is geopolitical and economic suicide, for it’s the creation of a unipolar bloc that the USA simply cannot oppose. Then, for good measure, add Japan to that mix, and one sees that current American foreign policy is living in a world of Brezinskian folly, which we may define as geopolitical make believe.  We are driving our most powerful allies away, and replacing them with…

…well, no one.

On this one, the Trump Administration’s stance makes much more long term geopolitical sense; it’s time to quit demonizing Russia, because whether we like it or not, Russia is a key pivot point in the current geopolitical situation. We may never be friends, but to keep slamming the door in Russia’s face serves no one, and the Germans are well aware of it

See you on the flip side…

Suppose Trump Had Hillary’s Incredible Russian Connection?

TruthFact

Source: NoMoreFakeNews.com | JonRappoport.wordpress.com
By: Jon Rappoport
May 31, 2017

If Trump had Hillary’s Russian connection…

Trump would be curled up in a ball in a bunker a few hundred feet under the White House. And that’s on his best day.

The newspapers and television news would be citing nothing less than treason as the cause for his impeachment. They would claim he was, in fact, helping Putin win World War 3 against the US. A nuclear war.

Forget “Putin influenced the election on behalf of Trump.” Instead, mainstream attack dogs would be claiming Trump was a conscious agent who had been turned, years ago, against his home country. The dogs would be making up stories about how this happened.

“It was on a business trip that the world changed for a desperate real estate mogul named Donald Trump. Mr. Trump was on his way to Moscow, ostensibly to meet with several Russian oligarchs about a casino project he was hoping to launch. Instead, he huddled with a representative and close friend of Vladimir Putin at the Baltschug Kempinski Hotel, and that friend offered Mr. Trump a different kind of deal, one that would change his life forever and alter the future of America…”

This is what we would be seeing and hearing if Donald Trump had been involved in the 2013 Clinton business deal with Russia that everyone knows about—but no one is willing to prosecute or even cover (anymore) in the mainstream press.

I have written about the Clinton deal before, but it’s worth reviewing again, given the kind of heat Trump is dealing with for Phone Conversations. Conversations several of his people have had with Russians; even business deals that could have been consummated during those discussions.

So…here it is again. Imagine Hillary and Bill Clinton were not the wheelers and dealers. Imagine Trump was. Try to conceive what would be happening to him now vs. what is happening to Bill and Hillary: i.e., nothing.

I’ll go one step further. Wherever Bill or Hillary’s name, or the name of their Foundation, appears in the NY Times story I’m about to quote, I’ll substitute a Trump name (in CAPS), so you get the full effect:

Consider this plot line. Follow the bouncing ball.

Putin wants 20% of uranium on US soil. That 20% is owned by a Canadian mining company.

The Canadian executives want to sell it to Putin.

But because uranium is a US “national security” product, various US federal agencies have to OK the deal. One of those agencies is the US State Department.

The State Department is headed up by MELANIA TRUMP. Her Department says yes to the uranium deal.

The kicker? Those Canadian mining executives, who wanted the sale to Putin to go through, donated millions to the TRUMP FAMILY FOUNDATION.

Memory is short. On April 23, 2015, the NY Times ran a story under the headline: Cash Flowed to TRUMP Foundation Amid Russian Uranium Deal.

The bare bones of the story: a Canadian company called Uranium One controlled a great deal of uranium production in the US. It was sold to Russia (meaning Putin and his minions). So Putin now controls 20% of US uranium production.

From the Times: “…the sale gave the Russians control of one-fifth of all uranium production capacity in the United States.”

From the Times: “The [Pravda] article, in January 2013, detailed how the Russian atomic energy agency, Rosatom, had taken over a Canadian company [Uranium One] with uranium-mining stakes stretching from Central Asia to the American West. The deal made Rosatom one of the world’s largest uranium producers and brought Mr. Putin closer to his goal of controlling much of the global uranium supply chain.”

“At the heart of the tale are several men, leaders of the Canadian mining industry, who have been major donors to the charitable endeavors of DONALD TRUMP and his family. Members of that [mining] group built, financed and eventually sold off to the Russians a company that would become known as Uranium One.”

“Frank Giustra…a mining financier, has donated $31.3 million to the foundation run by DONALD TRUMP…”

“Since uranium is considered a strategic asset, with implications for national security, the deal [to sell Uranium One to Putin] had to be approved by a committee composed of representatives from a number of United States government agencies. Among the agencies that eventually signed off was the State Department, then headed by Mr. TRUMP’S wife, MELANIA TRUMP.”

“As the Russians gradually assumed control of Uranium One in three separate transactions from 2009 to 2013, Canadian records show, a flow of cash made its way to the TRUMP Foundation. Uranium One’s chairman used his family foundation to make four donations totaling $2.35 million. Those contributions were not publicly disclosed by the TRUMPS, despite an agreement Mrs. TRUMP had struck with the Obama White House to publicly identify all donors. Other people with ties to the company made donations as well.”

“And shortly after the Russians announced their intention to acquire a majority stake in Uranium One, Mr. TRUMP received $500,000 for a Moscow speech from a Russian investment bank with links to the Kremlin that was promoting Uranium One stock.”

Got the picture?

Circumstantial case, you say?

Well, imagine the case applied to Donald Trump and his wife.

Where would we be now?

What hell would be unleashed from the press corps?

What venom would be spewed from the Arctic Circle to Tierra del Fuego?

Page one: THE GREATEST TRAITOR IN AMERICAN HISTORY IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

And that headline would run on a mild slow news day.

But Hillary and Bill Clinton, the actual players in the Russia/Putin/uranium deal…

Roam free.

The Power Of Soft Power: Japan, Russia & The USSA

Source: GizaDeathStar.com
Dr. Joseph P. Farrell Ph.D.
May 12, 2017

Every now and then I receive an article that is so thought-provoking I have to share it, and my own opinions about it, even though – as is the current case – my thoughts are still in the process of formation. This is consequently not quite an “op-ed” piece; it’s more of a “thinking out loud ramble”. In this case, the subject of my ramble is that of “soft power”, the idea of “culture” as a geopolitical card that looks increasingly, to my amateur eyes, like it is being played on the world scene, and played deftly by some players that know how to play it.

Permit me an anecdote here: months ago I had a private conversation with a friend who is a financial advisor for a major government in the Pacific. We were discussing the way Mr. Putin has been able to so successfully play the soft power culture card. At the time, I was analyzing Russia’s moves on the world stage in terms of a rather radical thesis, namely, that Putin’s Russia is not a “neo-Stalinist” state, as it is usually misunderstood to be by the West and in particular by the corporate controlled media of the West, and its quackademic “think tanks.” Rather, I opined to my friend, Russia was experimenting with something very unique, something defined by its long history: its grounding as a culture in Eastern Orthodoxy; its invasion by, and eventual expulsion of, the Mongols; its Drang nach Osten and the “collection of the Russian lands” under Ivan the terrible and the drive across Siberia to the Pacific; its “westernization” under Peter the Great; and, of course, its sad experience with Marxism, a western philosophical import; its invasion and surrender to the Central Powers in World War One and following civil war; the devastating invasion by Hitler in 1941; and finally, the collapse of the Soviet Union.

What Putin’s Russia was and is, I argued with my friend, is that it is the world’s first “post-post modernist State,” and that meant, I argued, that we would see Russia doing some “unusual things” on the world stage: (1) it would challenge the dogma of the globaloneyists that the nation-state is obsolete, and the world needs to be run by the likes of David Rockefailure and Darth Soros. (I don’t know about you, but that idea appeals to me even less than the world being run by Bonaparte, Wilhelm II, or Adolf Hitler.)  (2) Russia would begin to play its soft power culture card, not only domestically, but internationally, and make a play to speak for the culturally and politically disenfranchised conservative in the West. To be sure, that was a very radical idea, but I was perfectly serious in proposing it. Mr. Putin had, at the time we were having our discussion, made several speeches to the effect that Russia’s way forward lay, in part, by not neglecting its spiritual heritage; Russia would, he opined, protect the rights of minorities, but it would not allow them to tyrannize the majority nor overturn that inheritance. But that was for domestic consumption. Shortly after we had our discussion, sure enough, Mr. Putin began to address these types of remarks to the outside, and more specifically, to the West, targeting those individuals in the West of similarly conservative cultural values, while taking direct aim at the cultural progressivist left in the West. In short, Mr. Putin was maneuvering Russia – and himself – to be the representative of the culturally and politically disenfranchised conservative in the West.  Mr. Putin and his advisors are attempting to create a new national branding of Russia, and they have been more or less successful.

Which is why I found this article shared by Mr. T.M. about Japan’s use of the soft power culture card so very thought-provoking:

Japan has turned its culture into a powerful political tool

In the main, I have to agree with this article: Japan has managed, quite cleverly and successfully, to create a national brand of “western technology and traditional Japanese culture” and if one looks closely and carefully, much of that philosophical approach has spread to the other Asian powerhouse: China. Both countries are rearming, but if one looks carefully at their diplomacy, they are interested in two things: (1) getting things done and (2) producing things. The sweeping nature of the agreements already in progress in the aftermath of Mr. Putin’s visit last December to Japan, and Mr. Abe’s recent visit to Russia, are testament enough of the recent effectiveness both of Russian and of Japanese diplomacy, and I strongly suspect that it is the fact that both governments and their leaders understand and respect the soft power of culture, and the absolute necessity of preserving it, no matter what the nutty Gramscian progressivists and Mr. Globaloney might say in their perpetual use of shaming tactics.

With that in mind, think of the “national brand” of the United States…

See you on the flip side…
