Brain tumor vanishes in ‘Miracle Baby’ after family chooses cannabinoid oil

There is nothing quite so horrendous and heartbreaking as a baby with a malignant brain tumor, especially for parents and family. But at the same time, there is little as joyous and uplifting as seeing those tumors go away – and without the costly “assistance” of the corporate medical industry.

Recently, the father of an eight-month-old baby decided he would shun traditional radiation treatment and chemotherapy and instead push for an alternative treatment using cannabis oil. The baby’s physician, Dr. William Courtner, who was initially skeptical earlier in his career about medical cannabis, has since seen such impressive results with it that he’s not a big believer and a staunch advocate.

And the baby, by the way, was a huge reason for his conversion.

“They were putting cannabinoid oil on the baby’s pacifier twice a day, increasing the dose… And within two months there was a dramatic reduction, enough that the pediatric oncologist allowed them to go ahead with not pursuing traditional therapy,” Courtney said in an interview with The Huffington Post.

At four months the tumor had completely disappeared, and after eight months of treatment, the brain architecture and tissues were completely normal, making the toddler a “miracle baby” in Courtney’s words.

The physician further noted that successful application of cannabis in this case means that “this child, because of that, is not going to have the long-term side effects that would come from a very high dose of chemotherapy or radiation… currently the child’s being called a miracle baby, and I would have to agree that this is the perfect response that we should be insisting is frontline therapy for all children before they launch off on all medications that have horrific long term side effects.”

Long before voters in some states have approved ballot measures legalizing marijuana for recreational use (it is still against federal law, by the way), many states permitted the use of pot to treat various medical conditions – from cancers and asthma to neurodegenerative diseases and autoimmune disorders.

This makes sense, because numerous studies have shown that cannabis has incredible healing qualities, and that is particularly true for cancers. Indeed, as we have reported, the National Cancer Institute has documented more than two dozen studies on how incredible the healing power of cannabis is.

In animal tests, for instance, researchers have found that cannabis is effective in treating two forms of highly lethal liver cancer – hepatic adenoma tumors and hepatocellular carcinoma.

We reported further:

Benign tumors in other organs, such as the pancreas, testes, uterus and mammary and pituitary glands, were diminished as well. Several reviews also found that cannabinoids appear to encourage cancer cell death (apoptosis), while preserving normal cells. Moreover, cannabis induces programmed cell death in breast cancer cell lines and offers protection against both colorectal and lung cancer.

And, as the Free Thought Project has noted, even the mainstream media appears to be admitting to the fact that cannabis has wonderful medical qualities. As CNN has reported, there are at least 10 medical conditions cannabis appears to relieve.

Also, the network’s chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, says it’s time for a “medical marijuana revolution.” What’s more, he said based on his research for a series of documentaries on medical marijuana, there is growing support among varied political constituencies and the medical community for Congress to reschedule marijuana from Class 1 (narcotic) to something much more benign (and fitting).

Dr. Gupta is right – there is so much that is truly revolutionary about cannabis and marijuana, especially when it comes to treating cancer, so much that you’d be simply amazed.

My father has Stage IV Metastatic Lung Cancer. It is a harshly bleak diagnosis, one that a year later my family is still struggling to cope with.

Cancer is an appallingly destructive disease that touches us all in one way or another. According to The National Cancer Institute, during 2016:

  • An estimated 1,685,210 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the US
  • Approximately 595,690 people in the US will die from cancer

Rising cancer rates

This hasn’t always been the case. Not only are cancer rates rising, they are higher in Western countries than other areas of the world. There are a number of reasons for this, including increasing lifespans and increased ability to detect cancer; however, approximately 30% of modern cancers are now estimated to be caused by diet2.

Scientific studies have shown that diets of processed red meat, fried food, refined white flour, sugar and alcohol, are all capable of causing cancer. But just as food can cause cancer, diet can also be used to help the body fight back against the disease.

Anti-cancer foods

When my father asked his oncologist if there was anything he could change in his diet to support his chemotherapy regime, his oncologist said no. He said that while a healthy, balanced diet should of course be recommended, my father couldn’t affect the spread or progression of his cancer with food.

I was shocked to hear him say this, because scientific studies being conducted by researchers all around the world, tell us that this isn’t true.

Studies on compounds such as lycopene in tomatoes3,4,5, glucosinolates in cruciferous vegetables6,7,8, catechins in green tea9,10,11 and curcumin in turmeric12,13,14 have all been shown to have anti-cancer effects. In other words, these compounds are able to act on cancer cells to stop them from developing, growing and/or spreading.

Diet can prevent cancer developing, diet can help to mobilize the immune system, and diet can deliver anti-cancer compounds into the body. The concept of using anti-cancer foods in the fight against cancer can be clearly explained using current scientific findings and logical scientific conjecture.

Waiting for the medical profession

The amount of research in this area is still in its infancy. Many of the studies so far have been carried out on tumour cells in vitro (outside of the body in petri dishes) or in small animal models such as mice. Until investigations have been extensively carried out on human populations, in double-blind studies, the medical profession won’t tell you to complement your cancer therapy with diet.

These extensive human studies are being carried out now and in five years’ time, this dietary advice might be given freely by oncologists to their cancer patients. Do you have five years or so to wait? My Dad doesn’t.

Jury: Johnson & Johnson Failed To Warn of Talc Powder-Cancer Risk

On May 2, Johnson & Johnson was ordered by a U.S. jury to pay $55 million to a woman who had alleged the company’s talcum-powder products, which she had used for feminine hygiene, caused her ovarian cancer. It is the 2nd straight time the company lost a verdict.

Johnson & Johnson is currently facing about 1,200 lawsuits accusing it of failing to warn consumers about the cancer risks associated with its talc-based products.

The first time the healthcare products company lost a verdict was in February, when a jury ordered J&J to pay $72 million in damages to the family of an Alabama woman who died from ovarian cancer allegedly caused by using Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder and other projects that contained talc for feminine hygiene.

In the current case, jurors deliberated for about a day following a 3-week trial in Missouri state court. They decided to award the plaintiff, Gloria Ristesund, $5 million in compensatory damages and $50 million in punitive damages.

The company plans to appeal, said Carol Goodrich, a Johnson & Johnson spokeswoman, and will continue to defend its talc-containing products.

Ristesund testified that she had used Johnson & Johnson’s talc-based products on her genitals for decades. Her lawyers stated that Ristesund was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and had to undergo a hysterectomy and related surgeries. Fortunately, her cancer is now in remission. [1]

The latest verdict is more significant because it appeared that the facts backed Johnson & Johnson’s claims that its talc-based products did not cause Ristesund’s cancer. Evidence in the case showed Ristesund had suffered from endometriosis and was overweight, both conditions that have been linked to ovarian cancer. Furthermore, Ristesund’s cancer has not returned since undergoing surgery in 2011. Jurors are sometimes more sympathetic towards victims who are terminally ill, or who have died.

The 9 women and 3 men on the jury found Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiary, Johnson & Johnson Consumer Cos., Inc, guilty of negligence and failure to warn about the risks of using talc-based products on the genitals for personal hygiene. However, the jury dismissed an additional claim that the companies had conspired to provide misleading scientific and medical information. J&J’s co-defendant and talc supplier, Imerys Talc America, Inc., was absolved of liability, as it also was in the 1st case. One jury in the $55 million case stated that Johnson & Johnson’s internal memos “pretty much sealed my opinion.” He added:

“They tried to cover up and influence the boards that regulate cosmetics. They could have at least put a warning label on the box but they didn’t. They did nothing.”

A Little Bit About Talc

Talc is a mineral mined in China that is composed of magnesium and silicon. It has long been associated with lung cancer in workers who mine the substance, but it’s not clear if talc itself causes lung cancer. This is because pure talc sometimes contains asbestos, as the 2 are mined in close proximity of each other.

As a powder, talc effectively absorbs moisture and reduces friction. Women often apply talcum powder to their genitals and to sanitary pads for these reasons. A 2016 study published in Epidemiology showed a correlation between increased risk of ovarian cancer in women who regularly used talc-based powder on their genitals.

For that study, researchers asked 2,041 women with ovarian cancer and 2,100 similar women without ovarian cancer about their talcum powder use. Those who said they regularly applied talc to the genital area, feminine products, and underwear were at 33% increased risk of ovarian cancer. However, the women who used talc were also “more likely to be older, heavier, asthma sufferers, and regular analgesic users.”

Selenium is an essential mineral found in varying concentrations in soil. It’s found in foods such as Brazil nuts, sunflower seeds and garlic, but the amount in any given food depends on the selenium content of the soil in which it was grown.

Selenium is also found in water and so also occurs in varying quantities in seafood, but despite its relatively common appearance in foods, many people are lacking this important mineral.

It’s estimated that 0.5 to 1 billion people worldwide suffer from selenium deficiency while even more consume less selenium than is necessary to provide protection against cancer and severe infectious diseases.1

A Little Bit of Selenium Goes a Long Way Toward Protecting Your Health

Your body has only a small requirement for selenium. The minimum daily recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for this mineral is 55 micrograms (mcg) for adults, and this is one nutrient where you don’t want too much.

While small amounts provide important benefits, taking too much (for instance, 400 mcg daily) has potentially been linked to an increased risk of diabetes.2 That being said, unless you’re taking a supplement, it’s difficult to “overdose” on selenium that’s naturally occurring in foods.

As mentioned, many people struggle to get enough. This is particularly true if you eat a primarily processed-food diet, as selenium is destroyed by refining and processing.3 Why is it so important to be sure your body has optimal selenium levels?

It acts as a powerful antioxidant (and its antioxidant effects increase when combined with vitamin E4).

Selenium’s Antioxidant Effects May Help Prevent Chronic Disease

Selenium, therefore, plays an important role in preventing chronic diseases and is also important for thyroid and immune system function. According to research published in the journal Microbial Ecology in Health and Disease:5

Selenium [Se] is critical to the health of living organisms. It has been postulated that the vast majority of the world’s population has suboptimal Se intakes, and hence is at increased risk of several diseases such as cancer, heart disease, viral diseases and other conditions that involve increased levels of oxidative stress.

There are several disease conditions (e.g. diabetes, several infectious diseases and possibly asthma) where … good Se status in combination with an adequate intake of other antioxidative nutrients may help cells and tissues better to cope with harmful oxidative stress caused.

For instance, by some toxic heavy metal or other environmental pollutants, by hyperglycaemia, or by the immune system’s reaction to infection. Efforts to increase Se concentration in the diet are urgent for both current and future generations.”

Low Selenium Levels May Increase Your Cancer Risk

Low selenium levels are linked with an increased risk of death from cancer and all causes.6

In 2015, research published in the International Journal of Cancer revealed that higher selenium levels are linked to a lower risk of colorectal cancer, particularly in women. The study also found that selenium status is suboptimal in many Europeans.7

In 2016, a meta-analysis of 69 studies also found that high selenium exposure (from food but not from supplements) had a protective effect on cancer risk and decreased the risk of the following types of cancer:8

  • Breast
  • Lung
  • Esophageal
  • Gastric
  • Prostate

Selenium has also been linked to a reduced risk of bladder cancer, although one of the most well-known studies regarding cancer and selenium was a 1996 study by the late Larry Clark, Ph.D., of the University of Arizona, which linked the mineral to an overall lower incidence of cancer risk of death.

In the study of 1,300 older people, the occurrence of cancer among those who took 200 micrograms of selenium daily for about seven years was reduced by 42 percent compared to those given a placebo.9 Cancer deaths for those taking the selenium were cut almost in half.

In addition, the men who took selenium had 63 percent fewer prostate cancers, 58 percent fewer colorectal cancers, 46 percent fewer lung cancers and overall 37 percent fewer cancers. Selenium was even found to reduce the risk of lung cancer to a greater degree than stopping smoking.

The cancer reductions were so significant that the blinded phase of the trial was stopped early, and no cases of selenium toxicity occurred. Some of the scientific explanations for selenium’s anti-cancer effects include:

  • Increased antioxidant protection and immune system support
  • Regulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis (programmed cell death)
  • Triggering DNA repair in damaged cells
  • Suppression of growth of blood vessels supplying nutrients to the cancer
  • Inhibition of tumor cell invasion

Selenium for Immune System Support

It’s thought that selenium may exert its anti-cancer effects not only due to its antioxidant properties but also because of its ability to boost immune system function. Selenium may stimulate the immune system so it’s able to eliminate early cancers, for instance.

Further, a study in the North American Journal of Medical Sciences found the combination of selenium and beta-glucans (long-chain polysaccharides found in mushrooms) is particularly beneficial. The researchers concluded:10

Using two different murine models of cancer, we showed that the Se/glucan combination strongly suppressed the growth of cancer, mostly probably via stimulation of immunity.A combination of glucan with Se offers superior stimulation of immunity and inhibition of cancer growth.”

Aside from cancer, this immune stimulation may be beneficial for prevention of infectious diseases. Selenium is often mentioned in concert with HIV, as HIV-infected individuals often have low selenium levels.

Some studies have also found an association between selenium deficiency and progression to AIDS, while others have found selenium supplementation may reduce hospitalizations and improve white blood cell counts among this population.11

Selenium May Fight Viral and Bacterial Infections

It may also be useful for other viral infections, including influenza, as well as potentially bacterial infections. Researchers wrote in Advances in Nutrition:12

Viral and bacterial infections are often associated with deficiencies in macronutrients and micronutrients, including the essential trace element selenium. In selenium deficiency, benign strains of Coxsackie and influenza viruses can mutate to highly pathogenic strains.

Dietary supplementation to provide adequate or supranutritional selenium supply has been proposed to confer health benefits for patients suffering from some viral diseases, most notably with respect to HIV and influenza A virus (IAV) infections.

In addition, selenium-containing multimicronutrient supplements improved several clinical and lifestyle variables in patients coinfected with HIV and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Selenium status may affect the function of cells of both adaptive and innate immunity.”

One way selenium influences immune response is via selenoproteins (selenium-containing proteins). Individual selenoproteins are known to regulate inflammation and immunity, while it’s known that adequate levels of selenium are necessary to initiate immunity and also for regulating excessive immune responses and chronic inflammation.13

STUDY: Long Term Use Of Xanax, Valium, Klonopin & Other Psychoactives May Lead o Cancer

Benzodiazepines (BZDs), the group of central nervous system depressants known to create feelings of calm, sleep and drowsiness, are under fire for findings that suggest they may lead to cancer. This means that the likes of Valium, Xanax, Klonopin, and a host of other psychoactives, are playing a role in chipping away at people’s health, putting them at risk for one of the most life-threatening diseases around.

The finding comes from experts who engaged in a longitudinal population-based case-control study in which information was assessed from the Taiwan National Health Insurance database. The goal was to determine any association between use of BZDs and cancer risk in people who were 20 years of age or older.

Unsurprisingly, but still terribly saddening, they found that the answer was a very likely “yes.”

The psych med-cancer link

According to the published study entitled, Is Long-term Use of Benzodiazepine a Risk for Cancer?, there’s a correlation between BZDs and specific cancers. The study notes that it was observed “… that benzodiazepines exposure increased the overall cancer risk up to 21%, specifically for brain 98%, colorectal 25%, lung 10%, esophagus 59%, prostate 36%, bladder 39%, liver 18%, pancreas 41% and other cancers 27%.”

While they suggest that, “therapeutic effectiveness of BZDs should be monitored closely for long-term users” in order to fully understand the scope of the implications, the experts don’t shy away from the likelihood that the use of such drugs poses cancer-causing threats. They write that “… we assume that risk of cancers could be associated with individual BZD, which might have some relationship only with particular cancers etiology need to be identified.”

The mind-altering drugs most of us don’t need, but are prescribed anyway

Unfortunately, many of us are walking around with a variety of psychoactives in our systems, popping pills like it’s going out of style. In fact, it’s all part of a vicious cycle in which doctors prescribe psych meds to people who – in many cases – don’t even need them. At the same time, such medical experts enjoy the perks that come with Big Pharma bribes, in the form of cash, decadent meals and fancy vacations.

So, while your health is put in jeopardy, some doctors literally laugh all the way to the bank. It’s of grave concern that this behavior continues; doctors who do this are playing a role in the approximately 5 million deaths that have occurred in the West just in the past decade alone – and it’s all due to unnecessarily prescribing psych medications to people who don’t really need them in the first place.

Not only are such drugs linked to certain cancers, as the aforementioned study shows, but they’re also associated with suicides and other worrisome issues.

In addition to cancer, psych meds linked to suicides, mass shootings

The British Medical Journal found that antidepressant drugs increase the risk of suicide and aggressive behavior; although this was especially so in people under the age of 18, the finding involved all age groups. A total of 70 trials were assessed to examine the safety and effectiveness of the most common antidepressants available to consumers, and it was found that such medications put the under-18 age group at double the risk of suicide.

Use of BZDs is even linked to the surge in mass shootings that seem to be occurring just about every other day. Surely, it’s not just a coincidence that the amount of prescriptions tripled between 1996 and 2013, while the number of overdoses quadrupled – quadrupled! – during that same time. What else has been happening though the years? You guessed it – a ridiculous number of mass shootings and acts of violence, in which it’s often discovered that the person or people involved were taking mind-altering psych meds.

American Cancer Society Admits Conventional Cancer Treatment Causes More Cancer

The more radiation therapy you receive, the more likely it is you’ll develop a second cancer caused by that radiation, according to a document[PDF] released by the American Cancer Society, which admits that certain organs such as the breast and thyroid are more prone to developing a second cancer.

This information is followed by a new study which found that second cancers in Americans have increased a whopping 300 percent since the 1970s, all of which are a completely new type of cancer and not a reoccurrence of an old cancer.

The study also found that first cancers have spiked 70 percent over the last 45 years, highlighting the burgeoning profitability of an industry that shows no signs of slowing down as capital gains from cancer drugs reached the $100 billion mark last year.

Radiation, which may damage DNA, is believed to be responsible for 1.5 percent of cancer in the United States, and that’s not just from cancer therapy treatments but also from other sources of radiological imaging such as mammograms and coronary artery and CT scans, the latter of which delivers 100 to 500 times the radiation of an ordinary X-ray.

“For every 1,000 people undergoing a cardiac CT scan, the radiation adds one extra case of cancer to the 420 that would normally occur,” according to The New York Times.

Children exposed to radiation much more likely to develop breast cancer

Children who have received radiation therapy as a cancer treatment are much more likely to develop breast cancer later on in life. Age at the time of radiation plays a factor as the “therapy” affects the development of other tumors including lung and thyroid cancer, gastrointestinal and stomach cancer and bone sarcoma.

If a patient receives chemotherapy and radiation, their risk for developing some type of second cancer soars even higher.

Chemotherapy is actually considered a greater risk factor in causing leukemia than radiation and has been linked to the following second cancers: myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS, the most common) acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Testicular cancer has also been linked to chemotherapy treatment.

Chemotherapy increases the risk of developing hard-to-treat leukemia
