Researchers from St. George’s, University of London have confirmed that cannabinoids are effective in destroying the cells of leukemia, a cancer of blood-forming organs. When used in conjunction with chemotherapy treatments, cannabinoids, the active chemicals in cannabis, results against the blood cancer cells improved significantly. The new findings, which have been published in the International Journal of Oncology, suggest that lower doses of chemotherapy can be administered to patients.

The researchers set out to test the efficacy of existing chemotherapy treatments alongside cannabinoids, and to determine whether the order of the drugs had any impact on potency. Different types of cannabinoids, such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), were then paired up and used in combination the chemotherapy drugs vincristine and cytarabine. Based on their results, the researchers determined that using cannabinoids after chemotherapy improved the chances of cancer apoptosis, or programmed cell death. The outcome was less favorable when the order was reversed and the cannabinoids were given prior to chemotherapy.

“We have shown for the first time that the order in which cannabinoids and chemotherapy are used is crucial in determining the overall effectiveness of this treatment,” lead author Dr. Wai Liu said of the study. “Studies such as ours serve to establish the best ways that they should be used to maximise a therapeutic effect.”

The researchers noted that more tests would be needed before this practice can be implemented on a larger scale. Liu also pointed out that the team didn’t use the entire plant during their study; instead, he and his team utilized cannabis extracts. “These extracts are highly concentrated and purified, so smoking marijuana will not have a similar effect,” Liu told the DailyMail.co.uk.

Regardless, the results of the study are very promising. Chemotherapy has numerous severe side effects such as hair loss, mouth sores, and an increased risk of infections. If combined with cannabinoids, then chemotherapy dosages could be greatly diminished.

Moreover, the news could not have been more timely. Ireland is poised to legalize the use of cannabis for treating certain medical conditions such as severe epilepsy and multiple sclerosis in order to offset the damaging effects of chemotherapy. Simon Harris, the Irish Health Minister, has expressed his support for medical cannabis, especially in cases “where patients have not responded to other treatments and there is some evidence that cannabis may be effective.”

Meanwhile, Australian actress Olivia Newton-John revealed that she will be using cannabis oil and “other natural remedies” after her second breast cancer diagnosis. Newton-John’s daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, stated that her mother opted to use cannabis oil in addition to modern medicine. “My mom and best friend is going to be fine. She will be using medicine that I often talk about. CBD oil! (Cannabis has scientifically proven properties to inhibit cancer cell growth) and other natural healing remedies plus modern medicine to beat this,” said Lattanzi. Though controversy still surrounds cannabis, its healing effects are gaining more attention, and its medical potential is gaining traction. What Liu and his colleagues have unearthed has opened the door to for cannabis, and like Liu said: “Cannabinoids are a very exciting prospect in oncology.”

Dirty Vaccines: New Study Reveals Prevalence of Contaminants

The release of this information as the Trump Administration is considering the appointment of Robert F. Kennedy JR to head a panel to investigate them and the pharmaceutical companies behind them is timely, and perhaps, even deliberate. But the real news here is what is in these vaccines. Note the following paragraphs:

Using extremely sensitive new technologies not used in vaccine manufacturing, Italian scientists reported they were “baffled” by their discoveries which included single particles and aggregates of organic debris including red cells of human or possibly animal origin and metals including lead, tungsten, gold, and chromium, that have been linked to autoimmune disease and leukemia.

In the study, published this week in the International Journal of Vaccines and Vaccination, the researchers led by Antonietta Gatti, of the National Council of Research of Italy and the Scientific Director of Nanodiagnostics, say their results “show the presence of micro- and nano-sized particulate matter composed of inorganic elements in vaccine samples” not declared in the products’ ingredients lists.

Lead particles were found in the cervical cancer vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix, for example, and in the seasonal flu vaccine Aggripal manufactured by Novartis as well as in the Meningetec vaccine meant to protect against meningitis C.

Samples of an infant vaccine called Infarix Hexa (against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis and haemophilus influenzae type B) manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline was found to contain stainless steel, tungsten and a gold-zinc aggregate.

Other metal contaminants included platinum, silver, bismuth, iron, and chromium. Chromium (alone or in alloy with iron and nickel) was identified in 25 of the human vaccines from Italy and France that were tested.

Observe that this study was conducted by the Italian National Council of Research, and hence, is not so easily dismissed by the Center for Disease Control or by corporate shills. And also observe the list of what was found: unidentifiable red blood cells, lead, tungsten, gold, chromium, stainless steel, zinc, platinum, silver, bismuth, iron, and nickel. All we’re missing is a little thorium toothpaste (that’s a joke for those who’ve been following my interviews over the years), and a dash of uranium. But seriously, the list is far from complete. There is a growing body of criticism that has maintained that vaccines also contain human stem cells (from aborted babies), and so on. And let’s not leave out aluminum:

The investigation revealed aluminum and sodium chloride, the usual component of saline, as was expected, because they are named ingredients of most vaccines. …

Ponder that: in France, veterinary vaccines are prohibited from containing aluminum, but human ones aren’t… a disturbing factoid, since there are also studies linking aluminum to Alzheimer’s(that’s that “documented neurotoxicity” part, perhaps).

So what’s the problem? In mentioning the presence of aluminum, the Italian researchers go on to mention a very significant point, one which we have observed here in prior blogs about vaccines and, incidentally, about GMOs:

Aluminum has a documented neurotoxicity all by itself. The French veterinary vaccines exclude it for this reason. The human ones don’t. The researchers express concern about synergy of multiple toxins added to this known neurotoxin. “It is a well-known fact in toxicology that contaminants exert a mutual, synergic effect, and as the number of contaminants increases, the effects grow less and less predictable. The more so when some substances are unknown.” (Emphases added)

It’s that “mutual, synergistic effect” that should make everyone sit up and take notice, for what this really means is that while the effects of individual contaminants are fairly well known, their effects when working in combination multiply synergistically, and by dint of that, have effects that are geometrically multiplied and that are not well understood.

What’s the bottom line? Well, for one thing, I suspect it won’t be long before “Big Pharma” – and let’s call them what they really are: I.G. Farbensanto – will realize they’re missing a golden opportunity to harvest even more wealth from people, and start contaminating animal vaccines as well, and reaping enormous profit from suffering animals and their owners, and then proffer even more drugs as “cures”, for a hefty price, of course. And as for humans, I don’t know about you, but I strongly suspect the omission of these contaminants from their vaccine labels is not accidental.

They… just… don’t… care.

They might not be welcome in your yard, but it turns out that dandelions have tremendous potential when it comes to helping people who are suffering from cancer.

Chemo-resistant melanoma is now the most common type of cancer affecting Americans aged 25 to 29. The only option doctors can presently offer these patients is surgery to remove the tumor and its surroundings, followed by immunotherapy, which does not usually work when the melanoma has metastasized.

However, all that looks set to change, thanks to a humble plant that many people pull out of their gardens and throw away. At the University of Windsor in Ontario, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has shown that dandelion root extract can cause human melanoma cells to essentially kill themselves without leading to any type of toxicity. In fact, their initial study saw cancer cells disintegrating within 48 hours, while healthy cells remained unaffected. The study was led by Professor Siyaram Pandey, PhD.

These promising results prompted the non-profit organization Mitacs to reach out to AOR Inc., a Calgary company that produces natural health products, in order to develop a dandelion tea powder that is significantly stronger than that found in health food stores. They accomplish this by milling dandelion root, creating an extract from it, and then freeze-drying it into a powder that patients dissolve into hot water and then drink.

AOR is producing 6,000 doses of this tea for a clinical trial that will take place at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, and will involve 30 patients with various types of cancer, including leukemia, who have not had success with conventional therapy.

A statement on the website of the Dandelion Root Project at the University of Windsor says:

Since the commencement of this project, we have been able to successfully assess the effect of a simple water extract of dandelion root in various human cancer cell types, in the lab and we have observed its effectiveness against human T cell leukemia, chronic myelomonocytic leukemia, pancreatic and colon cancers, with no toxicity to non-cancer cells. Furthermore, these efficacy studies have been confirmed in animal models (mice) that have been transplanted with human colon cancer cells.

Researcher and medical oncologist Dr. Caroline Hamm said that some of her patients have noted improvements after drinking dandelion root tea from health food stores. The concentrated tea could prove to be even more effective, potentially saving countless lives.

Dandelion could help fight a number of cancers

A 2008 study published in the International Journal of Oncology showed that dandelion tea reduced breast and prostate cancer cells. A subsequent report in the same journal showed that a dietary supplement that contained dandelion suppressed the growth of prostate cancer cells. Dandelion extracts have also demonstrated their efficacy in treating breast cancer and leukemia in traditional Chinese medicine as well as in Native American medicine.

In addition, dandelion extracts show promise in fighting colon and pancreatic cancer cells.

The truth, of course, is that smoking cigarettes causes cancer. So does eating glyphosate. It’s basic biochemical cause and effect. Those who deny this link are denying the laws of chemistry and biology.

Another problem with GMO foods is they contain glyphosate residues. Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Monsanto s herbicide Roundup – the most common weed killer in the United States. If you are consuming foods containing wheat, sugar, corn, or soy, unless they are organic, they will contain glyphosate residues. Glyphosate is a hormone disrupter and has been clearly linked to infertility and miscarriage in cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, and poultry that are raised on GMO feed. Older studies document other dreadful effects of glyphosate, including cancer, endocrine disruption, damage to DNA, and deleterious malformations of the reproductive, neurological, and developmental systems of animals and humans. Researchers also link glyphosate to miscarriages in humans and livestock. Monsanto and government authorities have known about the toxic effects of glyphosate since the 1980s. And both the industry and regulators have kept the public in the dark. Genetic engineering, in other words, represents imperial politics of the worst kind, aiming at no less than the control of the world’s food by agribusiness. In early January 2012, Catholic cardinal Peter Turkson accused the merchants of the genetic engineering of crops of breeding economic dependence and a new form of slavery. Enlarged liver in an experiment conducted by Monsanto scientists, rats fed the company’s GM glyphosate-tolerant oilseed rape (canola) over four weeks developed enlarged livers, often a sign of toxicity. Monsanto followed up with another experiment, this time comparing the GM canola with a range of eight different canola varieties, thus widening the range of variation and obscuring any effects of feeding the GM canola. This allowed Monsanto to conclude that the canola was as safe as other canola varieties. Disturbances in digestive system and changes to liver and pancreas female sheep fed Bt GM maize over three generations showed disturbances in the functioning of the digestive system, while their lambs showed cellular changes in the liver and pancreas. Excessive growth in the lining of the gut Rats fed GM potatoes for only ten days showed excessive growth of the lining of the gut similar to a pre-cancerous condition, as well as toxic effects in multiple organ systems.

But the researchers used the same strain that Monsanto had used in its 90-day study on the maize and in its rat studies with glyphosate. And this strain is a standard one used in long-term toxicity studies and in cancer studies as well. So if the use of that strain invalidates Seralini’s study, it also invalidates those Monsanto studies and the all the other studies in which it’s been employed -studies that include many other GE foods. Moreover, the absurdity of the argument looms larger in light of the fact that the rats consuming the GE maize (or the Roundup alone) displayed a quicker onset of tumors, and a higher incidence of them, than did the control rats – which demonstrated that something besides their pedigree exerted a tumor-inducing effect. Yet, although their criticisms were utterly unwarranted, a host of GE advocates doggedly maintained the effort to discredit the study.

Although glyphosate is the “active” ingredient, Roundup contains many so-called “inert” ingredients. In herbicides, inert ingredients can be more toxic than the active one, and the combination of active and inert ingredients may surpass the toxicity of the chemicals on their own. Several studies demonstrate that Roundup is far more toxic than glyphosate. For example, while Roundup is toxic to human placental cells at levels 10 times lower than those found in agricultural use, the toxicity of glyphosate alone was measured at half or less. The herbicide residue remains on food for more than a year, even if processed, dried, or frozen. Bt toxin, also a pesticide (derived from a sporeforming bacteria), has now been genetically added to GM corn. When insects ate crops sprayed with Bt, it attacked their gut walls and killed them – but then was washed off. Now GM corn produces Bt toxin, which we consume, and which may similarly damage our own guts.

It has been found in livestock feed made by soybeans and corn genetically engineered to withstand glyphosate (“Roundup soybean meal and com”). In addition, the pathogen has been found in pigs, cattle, and other animals that have been struck by spontaneous abortions and infertility. The pathogen “may explain the escalating frequency of infertility and spontaneous abortions over the past few years in US cattle, dairy, swine, and horse operations,” Huber added. “These include recent reports of infertility rates in dairy heifers of over 20%, and spontaneous abortions in cattle as high as 45%.” “It is well documented that glyphosate promotes soil pathogens and is already implicated with the increase of more than 40 plant diseases,” Huber continued. Furthermore, glyphosate “dismantles plant defenses” against disease by immobilizing vital nutrients, which means the growing crop is starved of the nutrients it must have to defend itself against disease and to be nutritious.

Levels of glyphosate found in human urine are similar to levels found to stimulate human breast cancer cell growth in cell culture. Safety tests of pesticides conducted for regulatory approvals are based on the old notion that toxicity always increases with dose and the low levels we are exposed to are safe. This is out of step with research that shows that pesticides can cause endocrine (hormone) disruption and harm to health at low doses that regulators classify as safe. In addition to the primary active ingredient (glyphosate in the case of Roundup), pesticides contain additives or “adjuvants”, which are not well tested for safety. Also, the complete pesticide formulations as sold and used are not tested for long-term safety for regulatory approvals. Only the stated “active ingredient” is tested and these limited tests are used to set regulatory safety limits. Yet formulations have generally been found to be more toxic than isolated active ingredients, due to the adjuvants.

Roundup’s higher toxicity is often attributed to the inert ingredient POEA (polyethoxylated tallowamine), which helps the herbicide penetrate into leaves. It appears to help the toxin penetrate into human cells as well. In spite of conclusive evidence that inert ingredients increase toxicity, many of the safety assessments on herbicides conducted by manufacturers for the EPA test only the active ingredient.

When it comes to cancer treatment, chemotherapy does more harm than good.  There are other, non-toxic approaches that are worth exploring.

When Jim was 36 year old, he was diagnosed with acute myeloblastic leukemia with symptoms of fatigue, anemia, and extremely high white count on his blood panel. Over three years, Jim received seven chemotherapy treatments, each one giving him a temporary remission shorter than the last one.  Eventually the chemotherapy was no longer effective, the cancer cells became resistant to chemotherapy.  After exhausting all of the usual treatments, the doctors offered Jim allogeneic hematopoetic stem cell transplantation, a procedure which obliterates the patient’s bone marrow with high dose chemotherapy.  The patient is then “rescued” with donor bone marrow stem cells from a family member or donor bank.  This procedure is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality from infection and graft vs. host disease.   The high dose chemotherapy produces permanent, irreversible infertility.  Jim had the procedure and is alive and doing well three years later.  Image (below) poster courtesy of Cancer Stem Cell Meeting 2012 Cambridge Cancer Stem Cell Symposium.

What can we learn from Jim’s story?

The first lesson is that hematologic malignancies, and all other cancers for that matter, tend to  come back (relapse) even after complete remission induced by cytotoxic chemotherapy.  For many years, the reason for this cancer recurrence was unknown.  However, in the past decade, the reason has been discovered.

 

Two Populations of Cancer Cells

There are actually two distinct populations of cancer cells in the cancer victim.  The bulky tumor masses are caused by rapidly replicating cancer cells, highly sensitive to killing effects of chemotherapy.  However, a  subset of these cancer cells lurk within the tumor mass, hiding in a dormant state, not actively replicating.  These are the cancer “stem cells” which are resistant to conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy, biding their time, waiting for a future opportunity to reactivate and seed metastatic cancer throughout the  body.

This explains Jim’s futile experience with chemotherapy which kills off the rapidly replicating leukemia cells, while leaving the dormant leukemia “stem cells” unharmed.  This is also true for most other solid organ cancers.  The solution, of course, is to address the dormant cancer “stem cell”, at the same time as the rapidly replicating cancer cells.(1,1A)

Unfortunately,  modern day oncology/ hematology doctors are oblivious to this important lesson, and continue to mindlessly treat their patients with the same chemotherapy protocols as before.  Even though this information is in their own oncology/hematology journals,  they cannot bring themselves to acknowledge it.

Sadly, since their doctors will not help them, patients are left to fend for themselves.  In order to get off the chemotherapy merri-go-round, the patient must learn about non-toxic targeted therapies which kill cancer stem cells.  These are widely available.  As we will see below, some of these therapies are supplements at the health food store, and some are common drugs  requiring a doctor’s prescription.  With knowledge of non-toxic targeted therapies,  a durable remission after the last chemotherapy treatment can be achieved.

Many Natural Substance Target Cancer Stem Cells(12)

You might be surprised to know there are 3,000 plant species having anti-cancer activity.(1B)  In fact, there are hundreds of non-toxic natural substances that target cancer stem cells. (12)  There are so many to choose from, one must be selective, so we will discuss only a few of them below: (10-19)

Curcumin

The food spice, Curcumin (tumeric) is widely available as a nutritional supplement in highly absorbance forms such as Meriva(r), Cogumen (Longvida) or Lipospheric Curcumin.

Dr Huang reports in 2016 that “Curcumin Induces Apoptosis of Colorectal Cancer Stem Cells by Coupling with CD44 Marker”.

Dr Huang studied colorectal cancer stem cells, and found curcumin couples with the CD44 cancer stem cell membrane marker,  and “might have some blocking effect on the transport of glutamine into the cells, thus decreasing the glutamine content in the CD44+ cells and inducing apoptosis.”(2)

Dr Chung reported in 2015 that both “Curcumin and EGCG Epigallocatechin Gallate Inhibit the Cancer Stem Cells . (3) Dr Chung reported the cancer stem cell marker was denoted by the CD44+ protein.  The CD44+ cell population decreased following curcumin and EGCG (from Green Tea). (3)

Dr Hasanali in 2012 reported that Curcumin inhibits Nuclear Factor Kappa Beta activation and Downregulate Cyclin D1 in Mantle Cell Lymphoma, thereby inducing apoptosis. (4) Left image: molecular structure of curcumin courtesy of Wikimedia commons.

Dr Shishodia in 2005 reported that “Curcumin inhibits constitutive NF-κB activation, induces G1/S arrest, suppresses proliferation, and induces apoptosis in mantle cell lymphoma.” (5)

The authors reported:

“the expression of all NF-kappaB-regulated gene products were downregulated by Curcumin leading to the suppression of proliferation, cell cycle arrest at the G1/S phase of the cell cycle and induction of apoptosis as indicated by caspase activation.”

Dr Choudhuri reported in 2005 found that “Curcumin selectively induces apoptosis in cancer cells with deregulated cyclin D1 at G2 phase of cell cycle.”(6)  Normal cells were left unharmed. (6)

Drug inventors have been busy with new ideas to make curcumin more bioavailable and more effective, such as Curcumin nanodiscs. (7-9)   A massive body of basic science and medical studies on Curcumin shows the natural plant substance kills cancer stem cells while sparing normal cells as a non-toxic targeted therapy. (2-9)

Dr Peter Sordillo wrote an excellent summary of curcumin’s ability to kill cancer stem cells in ,” Curcumin and Cancer Stem Cells” AntiCancer Research 2015 (10)  Dr Sordillo reports that Curcumin inhibits release of cancer associated cytokines, IL6 and IL8, resulting in inhibition and suppression of cancer stem cells.   Both the WNT and Notch pathways are important for cancer stem cell survival.  Curcumin acts to inhibit and block multiple points along the Wnt pathway and Nctch pathways, downregulating β-catenin and the genes for VEGF, cyclin D1 and c-Myc.  Amazingly,  Curcumin has no deleterious effects on normal stem cells, and targets only the cancer stem cells.
