I must make a confession. I never thought it would get this far. There is an absolutely amazing international revolt against the most deadly and most widely used weed killer in world agriculture–glyphosate. Those of you who have followed my earlier writings can detect my feeling of pessimism that mere “democratic” grass-roots protest, combined with a scientific assessment from an agency of WHO that glyphosate was a “probable carcinogen” would be enough to stop the pending, twice-postponed EU Commission renewal of the expiring license for glyphosate in the EU. It almost doesn’t matter at this point what the ultimate vote is when the next EU Commission glyphosate meeting is convened. The genie is out of the bottle. One of the world’s most important eugenics projects to maim and ultimately reduce human population is on the brink of being banned much as DDT decades ago.

On May 19, a revised proposal by the European Commission to re-approve glyphosate for use in Europe for 9 more years (rather than the original 15 years), but with almost no restrictions on use, failed to secure the required qualified majority among EU governments. This is an amazing and very positive development for democratic empowerment against an institution increasingly seen–not only by the British population–as an anti-democratic, even totalitarian structure irresponsive to the most basic concerns for the health and safety of EU citizens.

The agri-chemical industry bigs—Monsanto, Syngenta, Bayer and friends–are stunned at their failure. Corruption in government corridors whether in Berlin or Brussels seems to be losing its efficacy.

The next step for the troubled glyphosate renewal process will be for the EU Commission, those faceless, unelected bureaucrats, to come up with a new revised proposal that will bring Germany to approval by end of June when the old license expires or order glyphosate withdrawn from the entire EU market within six months according to Henry Rowlands’ international GMO watchdog media, Sustainable Pulse.

They cite Brussels EU Commission sources who report that the Commission did not even dare call for a formal vote, realizing that they would fail the EU requirement of Qualified Majority “yes” vote of the 28 EU states. France and Italy would have voted against in an informal polling. Germany would have abstained along with six other EU states.

Under current EU rules incorporated in the Treaty of Rome, a matter coming for a vote in the Council of Ministers of the 28 member states requiring a Qualified Majority approval, must satisfy two criteria. First, that 55% of member states vote in favor. Second, that the proposal is supported by member states representing at least 65% of the total EU population. Under the rules, an abstention under qualified majority voting counts as a vote against.

According to official statements of various EU governments in March before the latest May 19 meeting, in addition to open opposition to glyphosate license renewal on EU Commission terms expressed by France, Sweden and the Netherlands, the governments of Bulgaria, Denmark, Austria, Belgium and Italy had joined the “no” group. Their combined populations equal 53% of total EU population when Germany as abstainer is added. In that case the “yes” to glyphosate side would have a mere 47% not the required 65%.

An EU glyphosate ban today could deal a possible death blow to the global GMO project as more of the world wakes up to the fact that the entire GMO crop cultivation is part and parcel of the consumption of deadly glyphosate. It can be said that the Rockefeller Foundation’s funding of genetic manipulation, of genetics since World War II, as I document in my Seeds of Destruction book, is about eugenics or race purity as the Nazis practiced during the Third Reich. Little known is the fact that the Nazi eugenics, otherwise known as creation of the “Master Race,” was financed by…the Rockefeller Foundation. Monsanto has been in the orbit of Rockefeller core assets, now joined by Bill Gates, since World War I.

Industry Panic

At this point the global agrichemical cartel–one getting dramatically smaller from proposed mergers between ChinaChem with Syngenta and now Bayer AG with Monsanto are approved–is in a clear panic mode, and making stupid mistakes in the process. What’s at stake is huge for the health and safety of world citizens and for the future of the deadly agrichemicals industry. Glyphosate is the major component of Monsanto’s proven-toxic Roundup, the most profitable product of the GMO giant and the world’s most widely-used weed-killer.

Now Washington wants the EU to drop all health and environmental safeguards on GMOs to pave the way for a transatlantic trade agreement (TTIP). TTIP negotiations started on 25 April in New York. EU Health Commissioner Andriukaitis’ rush to ram through a re-licensing of glyphosate in May, shortly after his New York TTIP talks, was clearly another reflection of immense Washington pressure on the unaccountable EU Commission bureaucracy.

On May 16, timed for release just hours before the scheduled EU Council of Ministers vote on approval of glyphosate license renewal, the FAO/WHO Joint Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR) released what it claimed was a scientific study. They admit in the first sentence that it was rushed to publication. The study concluded regarding glyphosate:

“The overall weight of evidence indicates that administration of glyphosate and its formulation products at doses as high as 2000 mg/kg body weight

by the oral route, the route most relevant to human dietary exposure, was not associated with genotoxic effects in an overwhelming majority of studies conducted in mammals, a model considered to be appropriate for assessing genotoxic risks to humans. The Meeting concluded that glyphosate is

unlikely to be genotoxic at anticipated dietary exposures…the meeting concluded that glyphosate is unlikely to pose a carcinogenic risk to humans from exposure through the diet.”

This means that one part of the WHO says glyphosate is “unlikely to pose a carcinogenic risk to humans from exposure through the diet,” while another arm of WHO, the very respected World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has determined that glyphosate, the weed-killer used in most every GMO plant worldwide, and most other crops and even home gardens as well, was a “probable human carcinogen.”

The new FAO/WHO rush job however is no science. It’s fatally flawed bought-and-paid for prostitution science, with no offense to the world’s oldest profession meant.

As one critic points out, “this announcement was made without one single regulatory or industry glyphosate study ever having been performed at a real-life dietary exposure level (under 3 mg/kg body weight/day). This is a huge hole in the risk assessment process for glyphosate, as low levels of the herbicide may hack hormones even more than high levels and hormone hacking chemicals are often carcinogens.”

Conflicts of Interest

Moreover, the FAO/WHO rush job study committee is riddled with members with glaring conflicts of interest in terms of ties to the chemical industry desperately trying to ram through glyphosate re-approval until 2031. According to a report in the UK Guardian, Professor Alan Boobis, who chaired the UN’s joint FAO/WHO meeting on glyphosate, is vice-president of the International Life Science Institute (ILSI) Europe. The co-chair of the sessions was Professor Angelo Moretto, a board member of ILSI’s Health and Environmental Services Institute, and of its Risk21 steering group too, which Boobis also co-chairs. The Guardian report pointed out that in 2012, “the ILSI group took a $500,000 (£344,234) donation from Monsanto and a $528,500 donation from the industry group Croplife International, which represents Monsanto, Dow, Syngenta and others, according to documents obtained by the US Right to Know campaign.”

Monsanto Profits Drop 25% AGAIN as Farmers, Individuals go Organic

Your Voice Is Being Heard

April 7, 2016

Biotech giant Monsanto reported multiple profit-plummets in 2015 relating to sales for both its genetically modified crop creations and its best-selling herbicide, Roundup. Once again, Monsanto has reported declining profits for the fiscal second-quarter earnings – by 25%.

For Monsanto’s 2nd quarter, total sales for Monsanto dropped 13%; with one of Monsanto’s top-sellers, corn seeds, falling 11%. The biotech giant cites an “unfavorable agricultural market” for its losses, pointing out that:

  • Pressures in overseas markets is increasing
  • Farmers are reporting less income due to less-than-ideal harvests
  • The strength of the U.S. dollar made products more expensive

But the company makes little or no mention of the other key factors affecting its bottom line.

  • Organic food demand is exploding like crazy – and the figures show no sign of it slowing any time soon.
  • The world is seeing how toxic pesticides and herbicides really are.
  • Record farmers are switching to non-GMO crops.

While the company is admittedly still seeing profits in the billions, the continuous decline paints a bleak picture for the agricultural giant. It means that the massive grassroots movement against Big Biotech giants such as Monsanto is working, and that our collective voice is being more than heard.

With awareness growing on the potential dangers of GMOs and the very real negative impact pesticides and herbicides have on human health and the environment, why wouldn’t anyone go against such an unsustainable, harmful business?

Earlier this year, Monsanto announced that sales in the company’s agricultural productivity segment, which includes its best-selling Roundup herbicide, fell 34% to $820 million for the quarter ending November 30. Monsanto also revealed that it plans to cut more of their work force – a total of 3600 jobs, which accounts for 16% of its global employee base. The biotech giant will also record $1.1 billion to $1.2 billion in ‘restructuring’ costs.

Global Glyphosate Herbicide Market IS Driven by Genetically Modified Crops

Even Harvard has bowed to the Biotech Giants, stating that herbicide use is “ubiquitous” and may or may not increase with the cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops. However, GM crops accounted for 45.2% of the global glyphosate market in 2012 and have been increasingly cultivated. Without GMOs, there would be a great decrease in the use of carcinogenic glyphosate.

image-glyphosate-graph-2

The biotech industry says that GM crops reduce the use of pesticides worldwide. This claim is blown out of the water by a new report using global glyphosate market research. The report exposes the link between increased GM crop cultivation and increased use of glyphosate-based products, like Monsanto’s Roundup.

The glyphosate market will reach U.S. $8.79 billion by 2019, and GM crop cultivation is contributing to it. This is according to the Transparency Market Research (TMR) report entitled “Glyphosate Market – Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends and Forecast 2013 – 2019.”

The organophosphate glyphosate is one of the most widely used weed killers on the market today. It was patented specifically to be used with Roundup-ready (glyphosate-resistant) GM crops. Since its introduction in 1974, sales have skyrocketed.

In the past few years, however, countries have begun to consider banning glyphosate due to increasing knowledge of its effects, and others have taken even more solid action against the herbicide chemical. The WHO’s IARC cancer research arm calls the chemical ‘probably carcinogenic,’ and additional reports from the EU confirm the herbicide’s toxicity.

89 Million Pounds Of Carcinogenic Herbicide-Laced Fertilizer Used ACross US On Lawns, Playgrounds & More

In a new white paper entitled Human Health and Pesticides: Glyphosate and 2,4-D, the Midwest Pesticide Action Center warns of a ubiquitous source of exposure to toxic chemicals: so-called “Weed and Feed” mixes, or combinations of herbicides and fertilizers that are spread across everything from lawns and gardens, to parks, ball fields and playgrounds.

89 Million pounds of Weed and Feed products are used in the United States each year, solely by the non-agricultural sector. The white paper summarizes the research to date on the negative health consequences of the two most common herbicides in those mixes: glyphosate (Roundup) and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D).

Insidious, wide-reaching damage

The report utilizes the term “pesticide” as “an umbrella term that includes insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and rodenticides.” Placing the health risks of glyphosate and 2,4-D into context, the report says, “Most pesticides contain chemicals that can be harmful to humans, and exposure to these chemicals can cause illnesses (ranging from mild irritation to severe poisoning, seizures and death).”

Specifically, the paper notes, glyphosate and 2,4-D have both been linked to cancer and to disorders of the reproductive, nervous, endocrine (hormonal) and respiratory systems. They are both known to be especially dangerous to children. Like all biocides, these chemicals can cause both short- and long-term health problems, and the risks only increase with prolonged contact.

The report specifically highlights the growing concern over the ability of toxic chemicals to introduce epigenetic changes: changes in gene expression (without changing DNA) that can be passed on to future generations. Research has linked certain pesticides to epigenetic changes, but this research has not yet been done on glyphosate or 2,4-D specifically. However, both herbicides have been shown to cause genetic damage. 2,4-D causes both chromosomal damage and changes in gene expression.

A 2013 study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) found that consuming glyphosate just at the levels found on food as residue, caused enough damage to the immune system and gut to damage the microbiome and encourage the development of every disease associated with the Western diet, including obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility and Alzheimer’s disease. This “insidious” effect occurs slowly and steadily over time, the researchers found, due to glyphosate blocking key detoxification enzymes on a cellular level.

It’s no wonder that Monsanto is trying to fight “rumors” that its pesticide products are causing serious health damage to unborn children and to people of all ages. Glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, has been named the most widely used herbicide in history.

article crop graphs

A paper recently published in the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Sciences Europe states that 18.9 billion pounds (8.6 billion kilograms) of glyphosate have been used globally. The herbicide’s use has risen almost 15-fold since the introduction of so-called “Roundup Ready” genetically engineered crops in the 90’s.

Enough glyphosate was applied in 2014 to cover every harvested acre of cropland worldwide several times over, with estimates of its use coming in at (minimally) 0.53 kilogram/hectare. This makes glyphosate the most commonly used and widely sprayed herbicide in history.

Farmers in Kona, Hawaii Hit Monsanto with Lawsuit

February 25, 2016

Two South Kona coffee growers have reportedly filed a lawsuit against Monsanto, claiming that the company lied about the possibility for glyphosate, the main ingredient in Round Up, to cause cancer.

It’s not news that Hawaii has been drenched in pesticides. The islands have been deemed ‘ground zero’ for biotech companies like Monsanto, Dow, Syngenta, and BASF. Big Ag companies even like to brag that Hawaii is their testing ground for ‘new’ agricultural technologies, meaning their latest pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and the GM crops meant to withstand being drenched by the chemicals.

Christine and Kenneth Sheppard claim that Monsanto is to blame for Christine developing non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The Environmental Working Group claims that this single pesticide can double the risk of developing this deadly cancer, after researching 44 different projects where individuals were exposed to chemicals like glyphosate or 2,4-D.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported that the couple filed a civil case earlier this month in U.S. District Court in Honolulu:

The suit alleges Christine Sheppard, who once was president of the Kona Coffee Council, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2003, after 8 years of using Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide on the farm, and that the Sheppards were forced to sell the farm and relocate to California in 2004, “where she continues to undergo treatment and surveillance for her lymphoma.”

Scientific Consensus Statement Reveals Roundup Herbicide A Major Health Threat

Source: GreenMedInfo.com

February 18, 2016

A powerful new review on the toxicity of glyphosate signals a growing consensus among non industry sponsored scientists that the relatively unmonitored and unregulated exposure to this ubiquitous toxicant can no longer be promoted as a justifiable risk.

The review is open access and can be downloaded as a PDF and/or read in its entirety here.

The newly released consensus statement published in the journal Environmental Health and titled, “Concerns over use of glyphosate-based herbicides and risks associated with exposures: a consensus statement,” identified the broad spectrum herbicide glyphosate (common trade name “Roundup”) as major threat to human and environmental health. Identified as having increased in usage 100-fold since the late 1970’s, the study predicts glyphosate usage will increase to even greater amounts due to,”widespread emergence of glyphosate-resistant weeds and new, pre-harvest, dessicant use patterns.” Oats, for example, are commonly sprayed with glyphosate as a pre-harvest dessicant, even though it is legal to label them “non-GMO,” as we recently reported on in connection with the product Cheerios.

The study also identified a key regulatory problem associated with increased glyphosate exposure: “To accommodate changes in GBH [glyphosate based herbicide] use patterns associated with genetically engineered, herbicide-tolerant crops, regulators have dramatically increased tolerance levels in maize, oilseed (soybeans and canola), and alfalfa crops and related livestock feeds.” In a previous report titled, “EPA to America People: ‘Let Them Eat Monsanto’s Roundup Ready Cake,” we discussed the EPA’s role in covering up the increasingly dire glyphosate accumulation in our food supply by arbitrarily increasing its permissible levels without regard to the obvious health risks. This is all the more disturbing considering recent research has demonstrated it has the potential to act as a carcinogenic/estrogenic endocrine disrupter in the parts per trillion range.

Monsanto’s Roundup Could Cause Cancer At Concentrations 4,000 Times Lower Than Typical Exposure Levels

Roundup
Source: NaturalNews.com
David Gutierrez
February 19, 2016

Studies have conclusively proven that the popular herbicide Roundup causes birth defects, and an increasingly robust body of data linking the toxic chemical to cancer is also emerging. One of the most disturbing findings of this research is that the chemical may be carcinogenic in doses up to 4,000 times lower than what people may be exposed to during normal use of the chemical.

These findings have serious implications for those living near agricultural fields or in other areas with Roundup spraying.

Roundup is the trade name of Monsanto’s blockbuster herbicide glyphosate. It is one of the most widely used pesticides in the world, in large part because Monsanto has engineered genetically modified (GM) varieties of alfalfa, canola, corn, cotton, soy and sugar beets to resist the chemical concoction. This has led to a surge in Roundup spraying on agricultural fields worldwide.

Cancer rates skyrocket in GMO-growing regions

Some of the earliest evidence of Roundup’s connection to cancer came from the “Soy Republic,” a region of several South American countries that now has 125 million acres devoted to GM soy production. Doctors in these regions have noticed such a sharp uptick in cancer cases since GMO cultivation took off that they have formed an organization, Doctors of Fumigated Towns, and held a conference in 2010. Studies have now confirmed what these doctors long suspected: Towns with more Roundup spraying have higher cancer rates.

“The change in how agriculture is produced has brought, frankly, a change in the profile of diseases,” said Argentinean pediatrician Medardo Avila Vazquez, who specializes in environmental health. “We’ve gone from a pretty healthy population to one with a high rate of cancer, birth defects and illnesses seldom seen before.”

Perhaps the most damning verdict for Monsanto came in April 2014, when the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) published a review of 25 years worth of research into pesticides and a type of cancer called and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The study found that organo-phosphorus herbicides, including Roundup, were associated with a higher cancer risk. A 2009 study in the United States also found a doubled risk of brain cancer in children whose parents were exposed to Roundup up to two years prior to the child’s birth.

Regular exposure causes DNA damage

Because correlational studies cannot prove causation, scientists have conducted numerous studies to see if Roundup does indeed produce the cellular and genetic changes that lead to cancer. The evidence is clear: It does.

Numerous studies have confirmed that Roundup causes DNA damage in a wide variety of animal species. Other studies have shown that human cells exposed to Roundup turn cancerous.
