Fake News, Mass Hysteria and Induced Insanity

The “fake news” is that we’ve never been healthier, healthcare costs are under control and our economy has fully “recovered.”

We’ve heard a lot about “fake news” from those whose master narratives are threatened by alternative sources and analyses. We’ve heard less about the master narratives being threatened: the fomenting of mass hysteria, which turns the populace into an easily manipulated and managed herd, and induced insanity, a longer-term marketing-based narrative that causes the populace to ignore the self-destructive consequences of accepting the fad/ ideology/ mindset being pushed as “good” and “normal.”
In terms of “fake news,” it’s hard to beat the mainstream media and its handlers’ attempts to whip up mass hysteria via unsubstantiated claims that Russian hackers working for Putin deprived Hillary of the presidency. The campaign to spark mass hysteria was launched with great precision, unleashing the overwhelming forces of endless repetition (the marketer’s favorite tool) and appeals to national security authorities: The C.I.A., F.B.I, and all the other security agencies purportedly concur that Russia “hacked” (whatever that means) the U.S. election.
The intent of the campaign was painfully obvious: by wheeling out the big guns of authority without any actual evidence, the campaign’s designers hoped the public would automatically assume the bizarre, outlandish claim must be “true,” even though no evidence was submitted to substantiate this fact-free claim, and respond as planned, i.e. willingly join a mass hysteria herd in favor of discrediting the U.S. election results.
Did the “hackers” change the election results issued by voting machines? Did they “hack” the election totals? Wouldn’t there be tell-tale forensic evidence of such tampering? How else could “hackers” change the election other than by changing votes and vote totals?
Or was the media campaign to generate mass hysteria based on nothing but purposefully vague and unsubstantiated claims of Russia-inspired “fake news” that undermined the election by questioning the mainstream media’s biased coverage of the presidential campaign?
“Fake news” is of course the staple of marketing products that end up killing the unwary consumers who buy the hype. The classic example is the cigarette/ tobacco industry, which ran adverts for decades proclaiming absurdities such as the health benefits of smoking (other than dying a horrible, needless death), the “fact” that doctors preferred one brand of cigarette over the other brands, and so on.
The industry famously went to truly monumental lengths to hide the facts about the destructive consequences of smoking from the public, and aggressively attacked any evidence that smoking was remarkably unhealthy as “unscientific,” i.e. beating back the truth with The Big Lie.
That a form of consumption that killed the consumers was unquestionably accepted not just as “normal” but as cool/hip for decades illustrates the staying power of induced insanity. Mass hysteria eventually wears off, as it overloads the emotional circuitry of the target audience; humans soon become desensitized to the triggers used to generate mass hysteria, and it takes heavier and heavier doses of propaganda to maintain the feverishly herd-inducing hysteria.
Eventually, the populace habituates to the stimulus and becomes exhausted by the hysteria.
Induced Insanity, on the other hand, is not an emotional state–it is a state of mind and a state of perception that filters and interprets inputs to produce the desired output— an acceptance of insanity as “normal” and “good.”
For example, eating mountains of food that “tastes good” is positive and normal. Never mind that we’re eating/consuming ourselves to death:
Or that our medical costs are so out of control that they’re bankrupting households, enterprises and eventually, the entire economy:
Or that much of the money is spent on shuffling paperwork/ claims and counter-claims, complying with thousands of pages of regulations and dealing with the systemic fraud our system invites and rewards:
Induced insanity doesn’t just describe our acceptance of ill health and a doomed healthcare system; it also describes our blind acceptance of an economy that’s throttling small business:
The “fake news” is that we’ve never been healthier, healthcare costs are under control and our economy has fully “recovered.” These sustained “fake news” campaigns are intended not to induce hysteria, but an enduring acceptance of what is visibly destructive and insane.
Food for thought as we enter 2017. Always start every inquiry with a simple question: cui bono–to whose benefit?

Only 1-in-10 drugs prescribed are brand name, yet they account for majority of spending

Big Pharma

Source: NaturalNews.com
L.J. Devon
August 2, 2016

A new research paper published in JAMA points out a harrowing fact: Brand name drugs are prescribed 10 percent of the time, but they account for 72 percent of the total cost paid for pharmaceutical drugs in the US.

This is a prime example of the rigged American medical system, where people are being monetarily preyed upon. Worse yet, the excess billions of dollars reaped by price gouging consumers are used to promote the drugs to even greater extents, through the media or directly to doctors. In this way, Americans are never introduced to effective, evidence-based medicine.

Rigged medical system

Brand name drugs penalize consumers because of market exclusivity. Pharmaceutical manufacturers in the US block out competition because of patents, while cheaper generic drugs or holistic therapies are suppressed out of the marketplace. Buyers are not allowed to negotiate the price of drugs freely because of the restrictive patent laws. Also, price negotiations cannot be made because information on similar generic drugs cannot be compared to the patented name brand drugs.

Because of these competition-stifling rules, the price of brand name drugs in the US surged 164 percent between 2008 and 2015. Obviously the pharmaceutical industry in this country is not a free market that allows for open competition in helping people get well. Medicine in the US is dominated by brand name drugs that the laws give market exclusivity to.

Competition stifled, negotiations restricted, as Big Pharma takes advantage of Americans

To put these numbers in perspective, Americans spend $858 per capita on prescription drugs. Nineteen other industrialized nations, on average, spend about half that – or $400 per capita. The 20 most popular name brand drugs are three times pricier in the US than in the UK. In these other countries negotiations are allowed; in the US, the drug manufacturers set the prices. Negotiations are blocked and insurers are restricted from fighting for the best deals. This is why medicines like insulin for diabetes increased 300 percent between 2002 and 2013. It is also why cancer treatments are debuting at over $100,000, and insurance rates are skyrocketing to cover the rising costs. Not only is the medical system ignoring the root cause of health issues today, but the drug makers are running the show, pushing out competition, blocking negotiations and shoving their junk science into patients’ bodies.

Doctors often follow along with this brand name domination, ignoring cheaper, comparable drugs with the same effects. This drug-intensive approach also blinds patients and their doctors from seeking alternative methods of natural healing that are restorative to the whole body and cheaper in the long run.

Evidence-based or belief-driven? $57.5 billion spent annually on drug promotion

In 2004, two tireless researchers from York University found that the US Pharmaceutical industry spends $57.5 billion annually on drug promotion and advertisement, double what the companies spend on actual research. As the researchers explained, this is equivalent to spending $61,000 per US physician just to promote the drugs. This fact alone reveals that belief in the drugs and perpetual indoctrination are the real driving forces behind pharmaceutical sales. Because of this, people are not being introduced to evidence-based medicine, but are being brainwashed into accepting the notion that they have chronic diseases, only manageable through synthetic pills. Many physicians become the middle men, only peddling what they are paid to prescribe.

While emergency medicine has its place, the pharmaceutical industry as a whole does nothing more than prey on people’s minds and their lack of understanding of nutrition utilization and detoxification optimization. This inconvenient truth is evidenced by the statistics. Pharmaceutical “medicine” is a hundred billion dollar industry, but the chronic health problems in the country are only getting worse. Diabetes, heart disease, obesity, neurological dysfunction, behavioral problems and immune system deficiency are all on the rise. The pharmaceutical industry diverts people away from the root causes of their health problems, blocking price negotiations and forbidding competition from cheaper drugs and alternative healing modalities.

Cost of U.S. healthcare now 800% higher per person than it was in 1960, even when adjusted for inflation

Obamacare
Source: NaturalNews.com
J.D. Heyes
August 22, 2016

One of the most massive political scandals ever perpetuated on the American people was President Barack Obama’s healthcare “reform” law – one of the most onerous, under-performing and destructive pieces of legislation ever to be codified in U.S. statutes.

One of the biggest lies of all is that the 2,700 page plus behemoth was supposed to lower healthcare costs – for patients and hospitals, as well as for insurers. Out-of-pocket costs and premiums were also supposed to fall dramatically, as Obama promised repeatedly during his first campaign for the White House.

But that was then. Today, not only are premiums literally skyrocketing just a few years after the law has fully taken effect, but out-of-pocket expenses, mostly for ever growing insurance plan deductibles, have also grown exponentially.

Consider that in the U.S. today, a single trip to the emergency room – depending on the severity of your illness or injury – could easily top $30,000, $40,000, 50,000 or even more. If your plan has a high deductible, or if you simply cannot afford coverage regardless of Obamacare’s mandate that you have coverage, just one such visit could bankrupt you or doom you and your family to a lifetime of crippling economic despair – all while our president and the Democrats who helped him pass the law receive better plans, VIP treatment and government subsidies to pay for their own coverage.

A ‘reform’ law that has only made things harder and more expensive for Americans

The Obamacare law – not “greedy” insurance companies or Republicans – is responsible for this calamity.

In fact, according to one recent analysis, compared to 1960, Americans today are suffering through an 800 percent increase in premiums, deductibles, out-of-pocket expenses and overall care. As documented by Global Research, a Canada-based think tank, in that year healthcare as a percentage of total gross domestic product (GDP) was just 5.1 percent. That figure had grown to 15 percent by 2002, but had risen further still to 17.9 percent by 2011. Estimates put it at 20 percent of GDP by 2020.

Further, the think tank noted, between 1960 and 2009, the average annual increase of healthcare spending rose from $147 per person to $8,086, or a 55-fold increase. If adjusted to 2010 dollars, the annual increase rose from $1,082 to $8,218.

In 1980, a normal hospital room in the U.S. cost $127; today, prices are many times higher.

The figures get worse from there. As noted by The Economic Collapse Blog:

— This year alone, Americans will spend nearly $2.8 trillion on healthcare. By 2019, it is estimated that Americans will spend $4.5 trillion on such care.

— Despite Obamacare’s “reforms,” the U.S. spending spiral on healthcare continues to streak upward. The U.S. spends more on healthcare than do Japan, Germany, China, France, the UK, Canada, Spain, Brazil and Australia combined.

— If the U.S. healthcare system were its own country, it would amount to the 6th largest economy on the planet.

— Nearly 60 percent of personal bankruptcies in the U.S. are due to outstanding (and massive) medical bills – again, something that was not supposed to happen in Obama’s new era of “affordable healthcare.”

Obamacare was designed to fail in order to usher in big, bloated, inefficient government-run care

The problem is only going to get worse. Not only is Obamacare being blamed for killing off scores of jobs, making it difficult to find well-paying, full-time work, but because of its arduous regulatory and compliance burdens on healthcare providers and doctors, many are choosing to leave the field of medicine and retire early, which will leave a dramatic physician and primary-care provider shortage in just a few years. So it won’t matter if everyone is supposed to have insurance coverage; they still won’t be any better off because they won’t have any access to a provider.

Obamacare is a disaster – a ‘reform’ law that was designed to fail so as to destroy the private sector insurance market in favor of big, fat, bloated, expensive, inefficient – and rationed – government-run healthcare.

Think the chronically-troubled VA medical system … on steroids.

Signed Into Law: Rhode Island Expands Medical Marijuana Program

bigstock-Medical-Marijuana-6220827-777
Source: ActivistPost.com
Mike Maharrey
July 25, 2016

Last week, Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo signed a bill expanding the state’s medical marijuana law, further nullifying federal prohibition in practice.

A trio of Democrats, Rep. Scott Slater, Rep. Patricia Serpa and Rep. Joseph Solomon, introduced House Bill 7142 (HB7142) in January. The legislation expands the state’s medical marijuana law by making medicinal cannabis accessible to patients suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.

The new law also streamlines issuance of a registry identification cards for hospice patients, cutting the time from 15 days to 72 hours. It also waives the registration fee for hospice patients and their caregivers.

HB7142 passed the House by a 67-1 margin. The Senate concurred on a voice vote. With Raimondo’s signature, the new law went into immediate effect.

Rhode Island legalized marijuana for medical use in 2006. The expansion of the state law demonstrates an important reality. Once a state puts laws in place legalizing marijuana, the program tends to eventually expand. When the state tears down some barriers, markets develop and demand expands. That creates pressure to further relax state law. HB7142 represents another step forward for patients seeking alternative treatments and a further erosion of unconstitutional federal marijuana prohibition.

EFFECT ON FEDERAL PROHIBITION

Rhode Island’s medical marijuana program removes one layer of laws prohibiting the possession and use of marijuana, but federal prohibition remains in place.

Of course, the federal government lacks any constitutional authority to ban or regulate marijuana within the borders of a state, despite the opinion of the politically connected lawyers on the Supreme Court. If you doubt this, ask yourself why it took a constitutional amendment to institute federal alcohol prohibition.

While Rhode Island law does not alter federal law, it takes a step toward nullifying in effect the federal ban. FBI statistics show that law enforcement makes approximately 99 of 100 marijuana arrests under state, not federal law. By easing state prohibition, Rhode Island essentially sweeps away part of the basis for 99 percent of marijuana arrests.

Furthermore, figures indicate it would take 40 percent of the DEA’s yearly-budget just to investigate and raid all of the dispensaries in Los Angeles – a single city in a single state. That doesn’t include the cost of prosecution. The lesson? The feds lack the resources to enforce marijuana prohibition without state assistance.

Rhode Island is among a growing number of states simply ignoring federal prohibition. Colorado, Washington state and Alaska have all legalized both recreational and medical marijuana, and 25 states now allow cannabis for medical use. With nearly half the country legalizing marijuana, the feds find themselves in a position where they simply can’t enforce prohibition any more. The feds need state cooperation to fight the “drug war,” and that has rapidly evaporated in the last few years with state legalization, practically nullifying the ban.

“The lesson here is pretty straight forward. When enough people say, ‘No!’ to the federal government, and enough states pass laws backing those people up, there’s not much the feds can do to shove their so-called laws, regulations or mandates down our throats,” Tenth Amendment Center founder and executive director Michael Boldin said.

[Book Review] How Doctors Think by Dr. Jerome Groopman

HDT
TheBreakaway
Zy Marquiez
July 6, 2016

There are doctors that follow the tune that the Medical Industrial Complex plays, and there are ones who buck the trend.  Dr. Groopman is one of the latter, thankfully.

In How Doctors Think, The New Yorker staff writer and Harvard professor of medicine & researcher Dr. Groopman offers a distinctive look into the structure of Big Medica in search for what exactly is the type of mindset Doctors employ when practicing their jobs.

Groopman does a compelling job throughout the book in making sure he relates the plights plaguing medicine from both sides of the coin, from the patients perspective, as well as from the perspective of a physician.  This aids in the book not being one sided.  It helps greatly that he’s also a Doctor with experience in this very field.

From medical, money, marketing, uncertainty, dogma, to various other components of medicine, Groopman attempts to turn over as many stones as possible in his search for what issues are the ones plaguing Doctors the most.

A notable point in the book that hit close to home, which many people will relate to is the emotional tension that can arise at times between patients and their doctors.  Essentially, whether patients and doctors like each other.  Groopman relates what Social Psychologist, Judy Hall discovered regarding emotional tension:

“..that those feelings are hardly secret on either side of the table.  In studies of primary care physicians and surgeons, patients knew remarkably accurately how the doctor actually felt about them.  Much of this, of course, comes from nonverbal behavior: the physician’s facial expressions, how he is seated, whether his gestures are warm and welcoming or formal and remote.  “The doctor is supposed to be emotionally neutral and evenhanded with everybody,” Hall said, “and we know that’s not true.”[1]

What’s worse, is that Hall’s research indicated:

“…that the sickest patients are the least liked by doctors, and that very sick people sense this disaffection.  Overall, doctors tend to like healthier people more.”[2]  So much for quality health care.

Along with the above example, the author additionally notes many other examples of issues that arise due to a crisis in communication which can arrive in myriad ways.

In fact, one of these issues that Groopman relates is that:

“…on average, physicians interrupt patients within eighteen seconds of when they begin telling their story.”[3]

Another salient aspect of Big Medica that the author sunk his teeth into was the psychological aspect of medicine.  Predictably, far too often doctors/western medicine view the patients psychological components as being apart from the body, rather than taking a much-needed holistic approach.

Additionally, the institutional dogma that reigns down from the top is also touched upon in a few instances by the author.  Open-mindedness is scoffed at, while conformity was expected.

Recounting an example of choosing between the availability of multiple medical options regarding a particular treatment, Groopman relates something noted by physician Jay Katz, who taught at Yale Law school at the time:

“In both [treatments]…we were educated for dogmatic certainty, for adopting one school of thought or the other, and for playing the game according to the venerable, but contradictory, rules that each institution sought to impose on staff, students and patients.”[4]

Another disturbing component that doctors acquiesce to that is covered by Groopman is how doctors far too often give into to corporate interests.  This very issue has covered by other doctors such as Dr. Brogan, Dr. Breggin, Dr. Mercola and many others.

This book sheds much needed light into the inner workings of how doctors operate – how they think.  While the author notes that a sizeable amount of the issues have a variety of roots at the outset, such as communication, what he conveys still leads to much concern within the Medical Industrial Complex.

In the end, individuals will need to become much more proactive/responsible in their health if they plan to breakaway from the conventional medical system that puts profits over people.

Why Paying Cash For Hospital Bills Is Five Times Cheaper Than Your Government Mandates Obamacare Insurance

Hospital bills
Source: NaturalNews.com
Jonathan Benson
June 23, 2016

Shellshocked by those astronomical Obamacare premiums? You might want to consider just ditching the failed health insurance “tax” altogether and paying cash for medical services on an as-needed basis because, truth be told, you’ll end up shelling out far less money in the long run.

This was the recent experience of a California woman named Caroline who, after receiving a hefty bill for a few simple blood tests, petitioned the hospital where the blood was drawn for answers. What she came to learn is that there’s essentially two pricing tiers for medical services: the insurance rate and the cash rate.

Accustomed to just having her medical treatments billed to her insurance carrier, Blue Shield of California, Caroline was shocked to learn that the $269.42 she was responsible for paying out of pocket for the five blood tests she received — this out of $408 total, the rest of which was covered by her insurance — was nearly four times higher than the total cost would have been if she had just paid in cash, insurance aside.

So instead of the blood tests costing about $80 each at the insurance rate, they would have cost only about $15 dollars each, or about one-fifth the cost, at the cash rate — a substantial savings.

“I was completely surprised,” she told the Los Angeles Times. “The woman I spoke with in billing said that if I’d paid cash, the prices would have been much lower.”

Cash rate closer to what healthcare would actually cost if insurance didn’t exist

This is especially true for common procedures like blood tests and imaging scans that are now widely available at a variety of medical clinics — everything from large hospitals to local clinics, and in some cases even pharmacies and drop-in “minute” clinics.

You can think of it as the “uninsured” rate, or the amount that such services would actually cost in the real world if we didn’t have complex insurance pools, government-subsidized coverage plans, and other inherently wasteful programs that breed price-gouging.

And Obamacare is only making matters worse by spiking many people’s monthly premiums so dramatically that they’re essentially being forced to seek out the lower cash rate. Some people are even ditching their plans entirely and just paying out of pocket rather than try to reach their ever-escalating deductible thresholds — it’s actually cheaper not to use one’s government-mandated health insurance, in many cases!

“This is one of the dirty little secrets of healthcare,” Gerald Kominski, director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, explained to the Los Angeles Times. “If your insurance has a high deductible, you should always ask for the cash price.”

True free-market healthcare: the answer to outrageous pricing schemes

The rationale seems to be that if an insurance company or the government is footing all or most of the bill anyway, then hospitals can charge whatever it wants for medical services. All of this gets thrown on its head, though, when real-life people are having to cover these costs directly.

“This just shows how screwed up the whole pricing system is,” Glenn Melnick, a health economist at the University of Southern California (USC), added, making the case for a true, free-market healthcare system. “It absolutely makes sense to shop around for healthcare like you shop for everything else.”

In an ideal world, insurance companies would negotiate with hospitals and medical providers to get the best possible rates for policyholders. But so much has changed in recent years, especially with the government getting more involved in controlling the destiny of healthcare, that the gap between what medical services actually cost versus what patients are being asked to pay has only widened.

“Insurers aren’t getting the best prices anymore,” says Melnick. “Hospitals often charge whatever they want and have tremendous power over insurance plans.”

Be Your Own Medicine

Treatment of atomized individuals in a setting of atomized symptoms and treatments is by any measure the opposite of a system that encourages and enables everyone to be their own medicine.

I recently saw a slogan that encapsulated what’s wrong with the U.S. healthcare system: Be Your Own Medicine. To Be Your Own Medicine is the essence of prevention, and a way of taking full ownership of one’s health, body, mind, diet, fitness and daily habits.

Alas, being your own medicine strips the $3.5 trillion healthcare system of profit, power and control, so the last thing the healthcare cartels want is for us to be our own medicine, as that would reduce our reliance on highly profitable pharmaceuticals, tests, procedures and high-cost facilities.

Note the slogan isn’t “take your own medicine” or “make your own medicine”–it’s be your own medicine, which suggests that health is a way of being, not just a way of consuming, though what we consume is integral to being your own medicine.
