This is part 1 of 2. Two basic set-ups for watering or managing moisture in 5 gallon containers. I use this for tomatoes but it transfers to most vegetables. Know your zone and summer demands. Set up the best system to give your tomatoes an advantage. The single biggest problem for container gardeners is letting their vegetables dry out. Dried roots is the main cause of Blossom End Rot or BER.

This is the basic set up I am now using for my 5 gallon containers to grow vegetables. I can’t tell you if plastic leaches chemicals but I can show you how to line it, so you don’t need to worry. I also show you the best way to make a drainage hole to allow drainage and keep a water reserve. A simple set up you can use for most plants.
