Laurie Huston and Tom Campbell: Consciousness and Ego

June 2, 2017

Laurie Huston from News the Heart is talking with physicist Tom Campbell on Ego, Growth, Consciousness, Intention and Control. This deep conversation began with an experience I had that Tom and I often discuss around Me versus Other. Learning how to detach ourselves and give space for the other to BE allows us to shift our triggers and BEcome more conscious in our lives. This also allows us an opportunity to detach from our emotions that are only perceived by our story. We also discussed 3 questions from our listeners, 1. on Intention and Control and how they are confusing, especially if we bring Law of Attraction into our intentions. Intention that is from a place of Being instead of end goal is the way we can maintain letting go of our control over our lives and allow what is happening to BE. 2nd question was around crying and ego and whether this is helping us grow. Being authentic is important and although crying is for each person’s ego, it doesn’t hinder our growth unless it moves into suffering. And the 3rd question was around energy and clothes which will continue next month as it brought up a great deal of information around Intention and our tools to assist us in our growing. We discussed how the differences between energy, data and tools we use will assist us in our growing towards love.

In Space, Telomeres Lengthen…

You know me; I love to engage in high octane speculation, and when Mr. M.B. shared this article with me, I knew I had to talk about it, because the implications, if the results are replicated, could be quite significant to the current talk about extended human presence in space. NASA, it seems, has been interested in how prolonged presence in space affects the human genome, if at all. So it turned to two twins, Mark and Scott Kelly, to study such effects, particularly on Scott Kelly, who spent a year in space at the international space station.

This, as they say, is where it gets “very interesting.” Here’s the article:

First Genetic Results from Scott Kelly’s Year in Space reveal DNA mysteries

So what caught my eye? As you might have guessed from the title of today’s blog, it’s telomeres:

As identical twins, the brothers are genetically very similar. However, researchers found that while he was in orbit, Scott’s telomeres — the caps on the ends of chromosomes — grew longer than his twin brother’s. Though Scott’s telomeres returned to their pre-flight lengths shortly after he returned to Earth, these results were totally unexpected, since telomeres naturally shrink over the course of one’s life, and the stresses of spaceflight are supposed to accelerate this. At least that was the idea.

“That is exactly the opposite of what we thought,” Susan Bailey, a radiation biologist at Colorado State University, toldNature. (Emphases added)

What’s interesting here, and what fuels my high octane speculation of the day, is that there is a school of thought that connects the shrinkage of human telomeres to human aging, i.e., that shrinking telomeres are contributory causes (among others) of human aging. Needless to say, it’s a debatable proposition; shrinking telomeres could equally be an effect of aging rather than one of its contributory causes, but in any case, the discussion is there. And before I venture further out on to the twig of high octane speculation where the weight of speculation clearly exceeds the evidence adduced for it, it is also worth mentioning another profound caveat: a study of one man is hardly proof of a general phenomenon. If the phenomenon is repeated in others under the same or similar conditions, then it’s not an accident.

But assuming, for the moment, that (1) it is a phenomenon and not an accident, and (2) that the shortening of telomeres is a causative factor in human aging, then the high octane speculative implications are clear: extended stay in space in low or zero gravity might actually contribute to a strengthening and lengthening of the telomeres and hence to human longevity. To be sure, the article points out that telomere lengthening can contribute to the development of pathologies, but under the theory that shortening is a causative factor to aging and human health issues – as the article also implies with these statements, “John Charles, chief scientist at NASA’s Human Research Program, said scientists are interested in telomere length during space travel because their erosion could cause health defects during long-term missions. It is critical to understand these potential health risks before sending astronauts on long voyages, such as one to Mars,” (Emphases added) – then their lengthening in space could actually imply that human life extension is enhanced… in space.

Now, in case you think we’ve crawled out to the end of the twig, we haven’t. We’re still on the thin branch part, but not quite out on the end of the twig. But now we’re going to go there. Under conventional evolutionary theory, beneficial mutations and adaptations…

Forbidden Archeology: The Hidden History of the Human Race by Michael A. Cremo and Richard L. Thompson quickly became a best selling underground classic, with over 200,000 copies sold and translations in more than 13 languages. This massive work spawned waves of resistance and wonder amongst the scientific community, with over 900 pages of well-documented evidence suggesting that modern man did not evolve from ape man, but instead has co-existed with apes for millions of years.

Michael Cremo lectures to academic, popular, and scientific audiences around the world in a continuing challenge to Darwinian evolution.

[Book Review] The Mysterious Origins Of Hybrid Man by Susan B. Martinez Ph.D

The Mysterious Origins Of Hybrid Man by Susan B. Martinez Ph.D is a reasonable book that calls into question the conventional tenet of evolution.

Martinez carries out an extensive view into many of the myths that have been propounded regarding evolution, and buttresses her argument in a sound and cogent manner.

The fact that the author uses extensive references also helps quite a bit.

Although this book is quite interesting, it feels that it could have accomplished more because it seems the author takes a one dimensional view into analyzing certain evidence.

For instance, to argue her thesis the author argues that “little people” were quite common in the past.  There’s nothing wrong with this.  The problem arises from it getting more focus within her book than the topic of ‘giants’ in his ancient history.

There are reliable authors such as Michael Cremo, and others, who have come out showing evidence of there being skeletons of giants in ancient history, and it would have been more balanced if the author covered this part at length rather than giving it a cursory glance.

While the author at one point touches upon Cremo for an instant, she never even bothers delving into his magnum opus Forbidden Archeology, which is chock full of reliable archeological data that destroys the foundation of ancient history better than any other book out there.

The author does argue that much of civilization along the pacific, and even in part of the Americas stems from a mass migration after/during ancient Lemuria’s downfall.   That argument of hers, which is quite strong, has also been argued quite well given the evidence she showcases to argue that component of her thesis.

In totality, the book is a pretty good book, but it could have been far better if Martinez would have delved into other areas to look at all evidence available taking a multidimensional approach rather than view history through one lens.

Things That Make You Go Hmm: Geneticist McCarthy – Are Humans…

Dr. Joseph P. Farrell
December 27, 2015

Mr. R.G. shared this article, and I thought I would pass it along for its intrinsic interest. Geneticist Dr Eugene M. McCarthy is proposing a serious genetic model for humanity’s hybrid organizations, via a kind of process of genetically “reverse engineering” the human genome. In this, he traces humanity back to the chimpanzee and “something else”:

Human Origins The Hybrid Hypothesis

I have to admit that I was so intrigued when I read this article that I thought “it’s almost too good to be true,” and so did a quick search on Dr. McCarthy, and found this reference to a very academic tome on avian hybrids – work which he mentioned in the article linked above – published by Oxford University Press:

Handbook of Avian Hybrids of the World

McCarthy follows the standard line of evolutionary theory that at least one parent of humanity comes from the chimpanzee family, given that creature’s very close genetic structure to humans. This is where it gets interesting. Writes McCarthy:

So in the specific case of humans, if the two assumptions made thus far are correct (i.e., (1) that humans actually are hybrids, and (2) that the chimpanzee actually is one of our two parents), then a list of traits distinguishing human beings from chimpanzees should describe the other parent involved in the cross. And by applying this sort of methodology, I did in fact succeed in narrowing things down to a particular candidate. That is, I looked up every human distinction that I could find and, so long as it was cited by an expert (physical anthropologist, anatomist, etc), I put it on a list. And that list, which includes many traits (see the lengthy table on next page), consistently describes a particular animal. Keep reading and I’ll explain.
