SHTF Planning: 3 Ways To Purify Water

Tess Pennington
July 26, 2016

Water is the foundation of life, and as such, water preparedness is one of the most important aspects of being prepared. That said, many are not prepared for even 1 day of water rations. Moreover, there are many who feel that storing water is a waste of time; after all, they can simply use tap water or step outside and use the water left over from storms and floods.

What they do not realize is that following a severe storm, hurricane or tornado, water is contaminated and should not be used for drinking. Flood waters are contaminated with oil, gasoline, or raw sewage which can infest city water sources and cause a number of medical issues.

It is a Fact That Hospital Visits Increase Following a Short Term Emergency

In fact, when short term emergencies occur, there is an increased number of hospital visits and admissions from common diarrheal diseases, acute respiratory infections, dermatitis, and other causes. These type of medical issues are due to those coming in direct contact with contaminated flood waters. These contamination factors will cause irritation to skin and a host of other medical issues. If ingested, this tainted water can cause a host of medical related issues including but not limited to:

  • Protozoan cysts (Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia lamblia)
  • Parasitic (Guinea worm, schistosomiasis, amebiasis, cryptosporidiosis (Crypto), and giardiasis)
  • Bacterial (Escherichia coli, or E. coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter jejuni, Yersinia entercolitica, Leptospira interrogans and many others)
  • Viral infections (hepatitis A, rotavirus, enterovirus, norovirus, Norwalk virus)

Learn the Valuable Skill of Purifying Water

To avoid water-related illnesses, it is imperative to learn how to filter your water using materials available to you. Here are three ways of purifying water for drinking. These are also great projects to do with children to teach them this valuable skill.

1. Homemade Water Filter

When you begin to filter water from lakes, rivers and groundwater, there are 4 steps to keep in mind:

1. Coagulation: removes dirt, metals and other particles suspended in water. Chemicals like Alum are added to the water that form sticky particles called “floc” which attract the dirt particles.

2. Sedimentation: the combined weight of the sediment and chemicals stuck together become heavy and sink to the bottom.

3. Filtration: smaller particles are removed as water passes through a series of filters (sand, gravel, charcoal)

4. Disinfection: to kill bacteria or microorganisms found in the water, a small amount of chlorine is added.

Materials You Will Need:

  • 1-liter soda bottles cut in half
  • Napkins, cheesecloth or paper towels
  • *Gravel
  • *Sand
  • Activated Filter Carbon (available at pet stores)
  • Large water container for dirty water (pitchers or gallon jugs)
  • Dirty water (made by adding dirt, twigs, leaves, etc., to water)
  • Large waste container (plastic container, thick garbage bag, etc.)
  • *Potable Aqua Chlorine Dioxide, water purification drops or tablets
  • 2 clean pitchers for filtered water
  1. Cut 1-liter soda bottle in half and put top of soda bottle upside-down (similar to a funnel) inside the bottom half. The top half will build the filter, the bottom half will hold the filtered water.
  2. Add napkin, cheesecloth or paper towel at the neck of the inverted bottle.
  3. Add filtration materials in this sequence:
    1. 1 inch of charcoal
    2. 2 inches sand
    3. 1 inch gravel
    4. 2 inches sand
    5. 1 inch gravel
  4. Add unfiltered water and allow water to seep through the filter.
  5. For added measure, it is recommended to chemically treat filtered water to kill off any pathogens that were not filtered.

2. Homemade Water Distiller

Materials You Will Need:

  • Dish-washing soap
  • Stove
  • Drill and drill bit
  • Stainless steel feed-through fitting that has a barbed end and an inner diameter of 3/8-inches
  • A 3-ft. long plastic hose that has an inner diameter that matches the stainless steel feed-through fitting
  • Large glass jug
  • A one-gallon metal pot with a tight lid
  1. Begin making your homemade water distiller by using the drill to make a hole in the metal pot’s lid. Once the hole has been successfully drilled, insert the stainless steel feed-through fitting through it, taking care to keep the fitting’s barbed end outside of the metal pot.
  2. Give the metal pot a vigorous washing with warm water and dish-washing soap. Be sure to thoroughly wash the pot’s lid, the glass jug and the plastic hose as well. Once your materials have been sufficiently cleaned, give them all ample time to air dry before proceeding any further.
  3. Fill the metal pot exactly three-fourths of the way up with the water you wish to distill, then place the partially filled pot on the stove and heat it up to about 200 degrees Fahrenheit. After steam has escaped from the stainless steel feed-through fitting for about five minutes, you will be ready to continue with the next step.
  4. You’re almost finished with your homemade water distiller. You’ll now need to slowly attach one end of the plastic hose to the stainless steel feed-through fitting, thus venting away any remaining contaminants and preventing them from being condensed into the freshly distilled water. Place the other end of the plastic hose into your jug. Steam that is being condensed will slowly drip into the glass jug in the form of pure water. After the dripping slows down considerably or stops completely, take the metal pot off the stove, after which it will require at least half an hour of cooling-down time before it and the plastic hose can be cleaned.

3. Solar Powered Water Distiller

Similar to this construction, you need few materials to make this.

Materials You Will Need:

  • 2 liter soda bottle
  • utility knife
  • lighter
  • Black rag
  1. Cut an empty bottle in half using the utility knife.
  2. Using the top half of the bottle (the part with the lid), fold the bottom edges of cut bottle inward making a 1″ or 2″ lip back into the inside of the bottle (this is the trough). If needed, use the lighter to heat to help the bottle in order to easily bend back in.
  3. Thoroughly soak a black rag with the dirty water and set it inside the plastic bottle in full sun for 4 hours or more. The water will evaporate and condense on the inside sides of the bottle and find its way down into the trough.
  4. When you notice enough water has collected in the trough, carefully remove the bottle from the nasty black rag and flip it over quickly. The water now flows the other way and ends up in the cap. Carefully remove the cap and drink the water.

General Mills has recalled an estimated 10 million pounds of flour over fears that they contain the E. coli virus. Over 38 people have been stricken with the virus in over 20 states, and General Mills has linked it to their flour.

This E. coli outbreak is caused by the strain O121, which causes cramps, bloody diarrhea, vomiting and can potentially lead to a life-threatening situation. The Centers for Disease Control noted that most people who became ill with this particular strain recall baking something homemade prior to becoming ill.

How Essential Oils Can Help Replace Overused Antibiotics & Stop Drug Resistant Superbugs

Essential oils

David Gutierrez
February 19, 2016

Antibiotic resistance is rapidly reaching the scale of a global health crisis. More and more people are being treated with “last resort” antibiotics, and the head of the World Health Organization, Margaret Chan, recently warned that the explosion of increasingly virulent drug-resistant microbes may eventually mean the “end of modern medicine.”

“The rise of antibiotic resistance is a global health crisis,” Chan said. “More and more governments recognize (it is) one of the greatest threats to health today.”

One thing that ordinary consumers can do to stem this tide, is to avoid unnecessary antibiotic treatments by using natural alternatives.

Why antibiotics are bad for your health

One of the most common misuses of antibiotics is when doctors prescribe them for viral problems, such as a cold or the flu, or minor bacterial infections that might otherwise have cleared up on their own.

Essential oils provide numerous benefits over antibiotics. They do not contribute to the evolution of drug resistance, preserving antibiotics for truly serious or life-saving uses – particularly if you avoid always using the same essential oil for every infection. In addition, essential oils do not cause wholesale destruction of your body’s good microbes – “microbiome” – the way antibiotics do. Antibiotic use is increasingly being linked with a variety of systemic health problems, probably due to disruption of the many subtle processes that our microbiomes perform for our bodies. Even taking probiotics after antibiotics is not enough to undo this damage.

So, for your health and for the health of society as a whole, here are some of the top antimicrobial essential oils. Studies have shown many of these to be as effective as antibiotics, and in some cases more so.

The top antibacterial oils

Tea tree oil is one of the easiest essential oils for a beginner to use. Unlike most essential oils, it can safely be applied directly to the skin, without first being diluted with a carrier oil. It has shown potent activity against viruses, bacteria and other microbes.

Eucalyptus oil, in addition to its antimicrobial effects, has been shown to speed wound healing and to protect injuries from exposure to air (much like a bandage).

Does your natural toothpaste contain peppermint essential oil, and not just peppermint flavor? It should! Peppermint is a potent antimicrobial and antiviral agent.

Lavender oil has shown antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It is particularly effective in speeding the healing of minor skin injuries including cuts, wounds, burns and sunburns, and keeping them from scarring. It is also an effective treatment for inflammatory and bacterial skin conditions including acne and psoriasis.

The common kitchen herbs oregano and thyme, in their essential oil form, are potent antibacterials that have both shown effectiveness against staph bacteria, including the MRSA superbug. Oregano has also been found to be effective against E. coli and salmonella.

CDC Investigation Of Chipotle Further Supports Corporate Sabotage [Bioterrorism] As Likely Source Of E. Coli Contamination

Mike Adams
February 2, 2016

After months of investigation, the CDC has now reached a conclusion that provides yet more support for the likelihood that Chipotle was the victim of corporate sabotage by the biotech industry, which targeted Chipotle because of its non-GMO menu.

On December 23 of last year, I wrote about the likelihood of bioterrorism as the cause of Chipotle’s E. coli problem, pointing out that corporate sabotage was 100% consistent with the actions of the biotech industry and its criminal-minded “mafia” of operatives (see for a list of all the “mafia” members). That article was predictably downplayed by the mainstream media, whose journalists remain absolutely clueless about the death threats, censorship, defamation and other dirty tactics routinely used by biotech industry shills to silence opposition.

But now the CDC has reached a conclusion in its investigation of Chipotle that further supports my original contention. “The E. coli outbreaks at Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants in the United States appear to be over, but investigators have been unable to trace the cause of the sickness, federal authorities said on Monday,” reports The New York Times. “[I]nvestigators were unable to specify the food or ingredient responsible for the contamination.”

Even the CDC could not narrow down E. coli to an ingredient source

To investigate the E. coli problem, the CDC investigated each food ingredient and each food source in order to try to find one common cause for the E. coli contamination. But all their tests turned up negative. The stunning upshot of this is that E. coli wasn’t found in any food source from a supplier.

Why wasn’t it found in any particular food source? The answer is simple: because E. coli didn’t come from the food materials. It was sprayed onto the foods by bioterrorists working for the biotech industry who targeted Chipotle restaurants.

This also explains why the strain of E. coli was different from the strain usually found in foods. The most likely explanation is that in planning their corporate sabotage, the biotech bioterrorists derived their E. coli from an animal source far from any farm fields, then found a simple mechanism for nebulizing it (spraying it) on Chipotle food materials at targeted Chipotle restaurants. I’m not going to offer any details on how this could be accomplished (I don’t want to give food terrorists any ideas), but I assure you it’s a very simple matter to accomplish due to the way Chipotle has the fresh food ingredients placed adjacent to the customer line (so that customers can see their foods are being made fresh).

Because E. coli was introduced to the Chipotle foods through an act of bioterrorism and not a farm source, the CDC was entirely unable to trace it to any particular ingredient or supplier. The NYT headline says it all: “C.D.C. Unable to Trace Cause of Outbreaks at Chipotle.”

Chipotle very likely increasing its own operational security

It is my contention that we have just witnessed America’s first act of corporate bioterrorism in the food wars. This fact may never be confirmed with absolute certainty, but now the CDC’s own investigation provides further support of this being the most likely explanation.

I’d imagine that Chipotle executives are privately taking this possibility very seriously, even if they cannot publicly confirm such consideration. They already know they’ve been targeted by the vindictive biotech industry, which tried to defame Chipotle with its “Chubby Chipotle” campaign that ridiculously claimed that eating fresh food ingredients would make you fat.

Watch for signs of Chipotle boosting its own operational security because of all this. This will likely be reflected in the company’s screening and training of its own employees as well as increased video surveillance over its food serving stations.

Why the biotech industry is trying to destroy ethical food companies like Chipotle

Chipotle is an ethical company with a pioneering vision of what clean fast food should look like. As such, Chipotle is an industry disruptor that threatens the waning dominance of the factory-processed, chemically formulated food giants like McDonald’s and KFC. The GMO agri-giants that produce the low-grade ingredients sourced by McDonald’s and other fast food giants aren’t happy about Chipotle disrupting their “poison for profit” business model, and they’ve decided to play nasty (which is how the biotech industry operates by default).

This means we probably haven’t seen the last of corporate-sponsored bioterrorism in America. Watch for more malicious attacks on ethical food companies by the biotech industry, a nefarious cabal of truly evil corporations run by criminal-minded deceivers who have made it their mission to destroy healthy food companies that avoid GMOs.

Bacteria Resistant to ALL Drugs Shows up in Denmark

Julie Fidler

Bacteria resistant to ALL antibiotics have arrived in Europe, and experts fear it could be the start of a global epidemic of untreatable infections.

Last month, we reported on a gene mutation called MCR-1 that had shown up in bacteria in China. The mutation is resistant to all antibiotics, including colistin, a last-resort drug used to tackle tough bacteria when all other antibiotics have failed.

The superbugs were found in 15% of raw meat samples in China, as well as a fifth of the animals tested. Colistin had also failed in 16 patients infected with drug-resistant infections.

Now a patient in Denmark has been diagnosed with an untreatable form of salmonella, scientists from George Washington University (GWU) and the Statens Serum Institute (SSI) and National Food Institute (NFI) in Denmark announced Friday. In addition, they also found untreatable bacteria in 5 samples of chicken imported from China through Germany.

The Antibiotic Resistance Action Center in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at GWU, said in a statement to National Geographic:

“The news that the dangerous colistin resistance gene has been found in Denmark is alarming. This newly identified gene, called MCR-1, is on a mobile piece of DNA that can make copies of itself and then jump to from bacterium to bacterium, spreading resistance. History shows that these mobile resistance genes can spread around the world quickly, silently riding in people, animals, and food. The news that MCR-1 has been discovered in Denmark suggests that this scenario is playing out in real time.”

The Danish researchers said that when they learned of the new resistance factor, they immediately took a look at the stored genomes they held at their institutions to look for it:

“The approximately 3,000 Gram-negative (E. coli or Salmonella) bacteria, which have previously been mapped using whole genome sequencing, have been reexamined to see whether MCR-1 is present. Results show that MCR-1 was found in one patient, who suffered from a blood infection in 2015 and in five food samples that have been imported from 2012-2014. All the bacteria are multi-resistant ESBL bacteria containing the MCR-1 gene, which can further complicate treatment.”

The Chinese researchers who discovered the untreatable pathogens warned that it could spread globally, but experts are shocked at how quickly they’re making their way around the globe, saying the situation is extremely serious.

And bacteria affected by the MCR-1 gene are especially frightening because they can be transferred to other types of bacteria, which means they could spread quickly between animals and humans.

ANALYSIS: Chipotle Is A Victim Of Big Biotech Sabotage In Realiation Of Going In Realiation For Anti-GMO Menu
By: Mike Adams
December 23, 2015

After observing recent events involving Chipotle and e.coli, here’s my analysis of the situation: Chipotle’s e.coli outbreaks are not random chance. They are the result of the biotech industry unleashing bioterrorism attacks against the only fast food company that has publicly denounced GMOs.

How do we know? The CDC has already admitted that some of these e.coli outbreaks involve a “rare genetic strain” of e.coli not normally seen in foods. Furthermore, we also know the track record of the biotech industry engaging in the most criminal, dirty, sleazebag tactics imaginable against any person or company that speaks out against GMOs.

Doctor Oz, for example, was maliciously targeted in a defamation campaign funded by the biotech industry earlier this year. The onslaught against Oz was initiated because he publicly expressed his support for honest GMO labeling on foods.

As the attacks escalated, Doctor Oz had his own team investigated the source of the attacks and found they were all biotech industry shills, some with felony criminal records and long histories of dubious propaganda activities targeting anti-GMO activists.

GMO industry routinely resorts to tactics that resemble terrorism or criminal mafias

As a clean food advocate myself, I know firsthand of the malicious tactics used by these biotech mafia operations, including tactics of intimidation and terrorism, such as calling in bomb threats to locations where clean food activists are about to speak.

There is absolutely no question that the biotech industry will resort to ANY activity necessary to destroy food companies that oppose GMOs. And yes, this includes acts of bioterrorism against Chipotle — something that’s ridiculously easy for biotech industry operatives to carry out with simple, low-cost laboratory supplies sold online at places like

In my podcast, shown below, I am now openly encouraging Chipotle’s management to initiate a criminal investigation with the FBI to attempt to identify the sources of this corporate sabotage campaign.

To be clear, what’s really happening at Chipotle is that biotech industry shills are deliberately contaminating Chipotle’s food with strains of e.coli in a malicious attempt to destroy both the reputation and finances of the Chipotle food chain. This act of bioterrorism is entirely consistent with the known behavior patterns of the biotech industry which, for example, engaged in illegal money laundering in Washington state in order to destroy the GMO labeling bill there.

The biotech industry not only sells deadly glyphosate herbicide poison that destroys human health (and contaminates ecosystems), it also uses its dirty money to financially influence academics, journalists and lawmakers. Those individuals who don’t fall into line with the biotech agenda are then treated to intense campaigns of defamation, slander, intimidation and threats to try to silence or discredit them.
