Researchers Find The Largest Ever Dinosaur Footprint On Earth

Giant Footprint (3)

Imagine that those flesh-eating dinosaurs were still alive today, it would mean that not only would we need to be worried about their extremely sharp teeth, but their large bodies as well.

Researchers have recently discovered a footprint of a dinosaur in Bolivia, and it turns out that it is the largest footprint ever found on Earth, left behind by a carnivorous dinosaur millions of years ago.

Until now the biggest Dinosaur footprint of a carnivorous dinosaur measured 110 centimeters and was found in New Mexico, according to paleontologist Sebastian Apesteguia.

However, everything changed when Grover Marquina, a tour guide, went hiking in the crater Maragua, about 65 kilometers from Sucre, Bolivia’s capital when he stumbled upon a massive fossilized footprint.

Interestingly, the giant footprint measures a staggering 115 centimeters.

Usually, these types of footprints are between 85 and 100 centimeters.

speculate that the massive footprint discovered by the tour guide in Bolivia may have belonged to a humongous dinosaur, part of the Abelisaurus family.

The predators referred to as Abelisaurus were two-legged beasts that lived about 70 million years ago.

With a monstrous and powerful Jaw, the height of this Dinosaur exceeded 12 meters. However, it has atrophied arms and features to rival the best known and famous of its kind: the Tyrannosaurus Rex, or maybe even a large raptor called Megaraptor – a fierce creature that was identified before in the region of Patagonia.

Interestingly, not only is this mark the biggest footprint ever found to date, but it also challenges a scientific belief about these prehistoric creatures that existed in South America during the Cretaceous period, which is known as the last part of the ” Dinosaur Era .”

Researchers claim that this discovery helps understand that these monstrous dinosaurs lived in the last part of the period, something that scientists were not aware of.

It was previously believed that the largest dinosaurs inhabited the continent some 100 million years ago, and not 70 million years ago.

Experts still believe that Dinosaurs were wiped from the surface of Earth when a massive Asteroid struck the planet some 66 million years ago.

According to paleontologist Sebastian Apesteguia, finding similar footprints in the region is quite common.

Experts claim that fossilized prints dating to the early Cretaceous period have been discovered in Bolivia, and smaller ones have also been seen in Chile, Brazil, and Argentina.

Researchers In Bolivia Find Two Skeletons With Abnormally Elongated Skulls

According to researchers one of the skeletons had an elongated head that exceed the proportions of an artificial cranial deformation raising the question what could have caused such atypical features?

Finnish archaeologists working near the village of Patapatani in Bolivia, recently found the remains of at least six individuals buried under an Aymara funerary tower which was built, thousands of years ago for people of royal statues in the ancestral culture.

Interestingly two of the skeletons were of particular interest. One of the skeletons belonged to a woman and the other one of her baby, nothing out of the ordinary other than the fact that both of them had freakishly large elongated heads that were not the result of cranial deformation.

One of the aptest researchers to look into this strange phenomenon is without a doubt Brien Foerster, best known for his extensive research on the (in)famous Paracas skulls.

Brien Foerster recently took a trip to the Patapatani museum where researchers transferred the skeletons that were unearthed.

In his journey, Brien Foerster was accompanied by an American radiologist and expert in human anatomy and Bolivian researcher and author Antonio Portugal.

According to experts, based on the shape of the pelvis, the skeleton we see in the images belongs to a young woman who died in her preadolescence.

The young girl had an elongated head that exceeds the proportions of an artificial cranial deformation, raising the question what could have caused such atypical features?

In addition to the skeleton of the young girl, the fetus found in the tomb is believed to have died between nine and seven months into development. It is likely that the fetus died with the mother during birth.

In his website Brien Foerster points out that if this proves to be the case, it is very likely that the baby would have been born with an elongated skull as well, meaning that both the mother and the fetus had similar conditions.

Brien Foerster points out that the ramifications are enormous since it means that we are possibly looking at a subspecies of ancient humans that died out thousands of years ago.

Elongated skulls have been found all around the globe and are not an isolated phenomenon of the Americas.

Among the most fascinating examples of elongated skulls are to so-called Paracas skulls discovered in the Pisco Province in the Inca Region on the Southern coast of Peru.

Interestingly, the cranium of the Paracas skulls is are least 25 % larger and up to 60% heavier than the skulls of regular human beings. But not only are they different in weight, but the Paracas skulls are also structurally different and only have one parietal plate while ordinary humans have two.
