In what can only be described as paradigm-shattering research on drug prices, the Journal of the American Medical Association has officially recognized why drug prices skyrocket in America. Big pharma is granted a monopoly by the State which effectively eliminates their competition and allows them to charge any price they want — so they do.

The new paper, published on August 23,  “The High Cost of Prescription Drugs in the United States: Origins and Prospects for Reform,” set out to  “review the origins and effects of high drug prices in the US market and to consider policy options that could contain the cost of prescription drugs.”

What the paper’s authors, Harvard Medical School doctors Aaron Kesselheim and Jerry Avorn, and jurist Ameet Sarpatwari, found and subsequently admitted, shatters the very assertion that government regulation in the market is needed to keep medical care costs low. In fact, their findings were quite to the contrary.

According to the paper:

The most important factor that allows manufacturers to set high drug prices is market exclusivity, protected by monopoly rights awarded upon Food and Drug Administration approval and by patents.

Imagine that.

The costs associated with studying, testing, and getting new drugs approved can be staggering, and the money made from selling the new drug is often used to pay for future drugs as well as paying back investments made to produce the current ones. Unfortunately, the people involved in creating life-saving drugs cannot work for free.

Nothing is wrong with making a drug that saves lives and profiting from it. However, when the profits are a direct result of government involvement, it no longer becomes an issue of innovation and the market, but rather an issue of a State-granted monopoly.

According to the paper:

Although prices are often justified by the high cost of drug development, there is no evidence of an association between research and development costs and prices; rather, prescription drugs are priced in the United States primarily on the basis of what the market will bear.

Increasing the market price of an item to the maximum profit per unit is a natural function of the free market. And, contrary to what the pro-government regulation sect asserts, this increase in price in relation to supply coupled with competition, happens to work toward keeping prices down — unless these prices are protected by a government-granted monopoly.

As the paper points out:

The most important factor that allows manufacturers to set high drug prices for brand-name drugs is market exclusivity, which arises from 2 forms of legal protection against competition. Together, these factors generate government-granted monopoly rights for a defined period. Initial regulatory exclusivity is awarded at FDA approval.

While the Journal of the American Medical Association is finally admitting the reason for skyrocketing drug prices, Austrian economists have been pointing this out for decades.

Ludwig von Mises correctly explains the situation in the statement below:

As has been pointed out already, there is no such tendency toward monopolization. It is a fact that with many commodities in many countries monopoly prices prevail, and moreover, some articles are sold at monopoly prices on the world market. However, almost all of these instances of monopoly prices are the outgrowth of government interference with business. They were not created by the interplay of the factors operating on a free market. They are not products of capitalism, but precisely of the endeavors to counteract the forces determining the height of the market prices. It is a distortion of fact to speak of monopoly capitalism. It would be more appropriate to speak of monopoly interventionism or of monopoly statism.

A glaring example of the staggering discrepancies in American drug prices can be seen in the remarkable drug for Hep C, sofosbuvir. Sofosbuvir boasts a near miraculous cure rate of 84-96% for Hep C.

However, the American version of the drug Solvaldi by Gilead, which has an FDA-granted monopoly protecting it, will cost patients a mountainous $84,000.

In India, however, Gilead has to compete in a free market. Competitors, of which there a many, using the older, much cheaper, and equally effective drug, have driven the price down to a mere $4 a pill. This makes the total cost of curing Hepatitis C in India’s free market — $336.

Because the FDA has become little more than a revolving door for the pharmaceutical industry to continually grant itself special privilege, the natural checks and balances of the market do not apply and we see seemingly insane price differences when compared to other markets.

One example of this revolving door is FDA member, Milton Packer, who chairs the Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Committee. Packer, who reviews applications for drugs submitted for FDA approval, is financed by Novartis and actually spoke on their behalf to the advisory board that he chaired.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Packer also appeared before the Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Committee involved speaking on behalf of Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2002; acted as a consultant and speaker for GlaxoSmithKline in 2003; appeared as a speaker for NitroMed in 2005; appeared as a speaker for Sanofi in 2009 and acted as a consultant on behalf of Pfizer in 2010.

And Packer is only one example, the list goes on.

The timing of this paper is impeccable given the recent hoopla in the news on the absurd price hike of EpiPens. Mylan CEO, Heather Bresch – daughter of Senator Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) — is on the receiving end of the FDA’s power to monopolize drugs. As a result of her monopoly, no one can compete with Mylan which has grown Bresch’s annual salary from $2.4 million in 2007 to $18.9 million in 2015.

Again, there is nothing wrong with making money. But, when that money is made at the expense of everyone else — freedom loses.

While the mainstream media often acknowledges that these drug companies charge exorbitant prices for their medications, they conveniently leave out the reason they can do so is because they have the full support of Uncle Sam.

Instead of looking at the corrupt government, who has the unique ability to create and sustain monopolies, the evil market is blamed, and people ironically call for more government – thus creating a vicious cycle of corporatism.

Hopefully, this admonition in JAMA, by these doctors from the Harvard Medical School, opens the eyes of those who continuously cry for more regulation to control prices. We’ve seen where that’s gotten us.

Here at the Free Thought Project we agree with the authors when they say:

High drug prices are the result of the approach the United States has taken to granting government-protected monopolies to drug manufacturers, combined with coverage requirements imposed on government-funded drug benefits. The most realistic short-term strategies to address high prices include enforcing more stringent requirements for the award and extension of exclusivity rights; enhancing competition by ensuring timely generic drug availability.

[Book Review] The Medical Mafia – Dr. Guylaine Lanctot, M.D.

Zy Marquiez
August 9, 2016

There aren’t many doctors who have historically spoken out against the Medical Industrial Complex, but Dr. Guylaine Lanctot is one of them.  For that, she should be applauded greatly.

The Medical Mafia is not what the usual medical book will be like.  In that lies its strength.

Dr. Lanctot makes takes a multidimensional approach to show almost every corrupt level within the medical establishment, ranging from one side in the spectrum of disease, all the way to the level of individual healing is being controlled by the Medical Mafia.  This level would also entails corruption, how the A.M.A. doesn’t serve the health of the people, how Rockefeller interests took control of health in the earliest 20th century, as well as much more.

The author lays down the gauntlet against all components in the medical system that have served only to bleed people dry of money, health, while also maintain the status quo.  The author makes it a point to show why the medical structure is fraught with issues, and also outlines many ways individuals can take charge of their health once again.

For a book that’s a couple of decades old, this book is more important now than ever.  With preventable medical mistakes costing hundreds of thousands of lives and maiming hundreds of thousands more PER YEAR, it’s time for people to rethink their paradigm of disease we have acquiesced too.

The whole notion of a ‘Medical Mafia’ will stir some people the wrong way, but the enormous amount of evidence compiled in this book, as well as many other makes it undeniable.

As Dr. Lanctot notes within the book:

“In 1978, the Officer of Technology Assessment conducted a major study on scientific medicine and presented its results to Congress.  It concluded that 80% to 90% of treatments used in scientific medicine have not be proven by clinically-controlled studies.  In other words they were being used and taught extensively despite the fact that they were not scientifically proven.”[P173]

Furthermore:

“In 1985, the National Academy of Science repeated the same study.  With the same results.”[P173]

The book is so overloaded with truth, that Dr. Lanctot actually lost her license because of it.  Censorship knows no bounds unfortunately.

Within the land of profits over health, corruption reigns, and when one sounds the alarm on the system, there’s usually hell to pay.  Dr. Lanctot is not the only one either.

The extremely unique way the author tackles how the issue of corruption within the medical establishment takes place is quite notable.  The fact that the author also touched upon the history of medicine was quite refreshing as well.  The author touches upon not only the Flexner Report, but also the Declaration of Alma Ata.  Predictably speaking, Globalist Rockefeller interests are all over these issues.

Other topics discussed quite well by the author regard Cancer, Vaccines, as well AIDS.  These topics are addressed incisively and will leave the reader quite curious, if not downright furious about what’s taking place.

Most importantly though, the fact that Dr. Lanctot made it a point to take a detached, practical and reasonable approach to how individuals can take back their health makes the book quite exceptional.

As a bonus, the list of resources in the back is stellar!  There’s dozens of books from different topics that the reader might want to look into.  As an avid researcher, this was greatly appreciated.

This book is an absolute indispensable masterpiece within the field of health and is an essential tool to understanding how an individual can navigate within the current for-profit and not for-health medical system.

Physician Group Supports Federal Decriminalization, Regulation of Marijuana

The group’s stance is the opposite of that of the American Medical Association

An increasing number of doctors believe marijuana should be legalized. A 2014 poll conducted by WebMD and Medscape found that 56% of doctors believe that cannabis should be legalized for medical purposes. Now, a group of more than 50 physicians, including former Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders, have teamed up with faculty members at some of the nation’s top medical schools to call on states and the federal government to decriminalize and regulate the use of marijuana in the interest of public health.

image-marijuana-physicians-phobition

The group, Doctors for Cannabis Regulation (DFCR), is endorsing the legalization of marijuana for recreational use, a break from the position of the American Medical Association (AMA), the largest organization of doctors in the nation.

From DFCR’s point of view, the prohibition and criminalization of marijuana use is more harmful than helpful to the public. The group cites hundreds of thousands of annual marijuana arrests, racial and economic disparities in marijuana enforcement, and the role of prohibition in keeping marijuana prices high and remunerative to violent drug dealers. DFCR says that legalizing and regulating pot helps ensure public safety, and is vital to battling the illicit drug trade and repealing the negative consequences of the authoritarian enforcement policies on disadvantaged communities.

Some polls show that about 58% of the public says it is in favor of decriminalization, and even more individuals support the use of marijuana for medical reasons under the supervision of a doctor. Despite prohibition, some 35 million Americans use pot recreationally.

Thousands of comments have been filed with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since November 12, 2015 for its ‘open comment’ period on the ‘natural’ foods label. Helping to fill up the comments was The American Nurses Association, weighing in on how products containing genetically modified ingredients should not be allowed in any product labeled ‘natural.’

Executive director Debbie D. Hatmaker wrote in the organization’s comments:

“Furthermore, ANA requests that the FDA require clear, appropriate food labeling including the country-of-origin and any genetic modification of any of the food’s ingredients.

The public has a right to know the contents of their food and food products and the manner in which they were processed or modified.”

What is also interesting is the lack of comments by big players in the food industry. The North American Meat Institute and the Grocery Manufacturers Association joined to request more time to prepare comments and compile information.

Due to public requests, the comment period has been extended to May 10, 2016. You can make your comments, here. PLEASE DO!

There have already been numerous lawsuits against companies for using the phrase ‘all natural’ on food products containing GMOs. Kashi had to pay $4 million in a false advertising lawsuit put forth in Florida. The lawsuit claimed that Kellogg’s, the parent company for Kashi, advertised an “all natural” (GM-free) product that was, in reality, full of genetically modified ingredients.

Mass fluoridation violates the AMA’s medical ethics on informed consent

Water fluoridation
Thanks to emerging research, the health effects connected to water fluoridation are finally being acknowledged by the mainstream media as being, at the very least, controversial and most likely damaging.

For over 65 years, the federal government has told us that water fluoridation is good for our health; however, research continues to illustrate the long-term damaging effects of adding an industrial byproduct to the water supply.

Not only is fluoride bad for your health, but the concept of adding it to the public’s water without informed consent is completely unethical and arguably criminal. Forced medication is not to be taken lightly, according to the American Medical Association’s (AMA) (the largest association of physicians and medical students) own standards for medical ethics.

Science continues to validate earlier claims about the adverse health effects of water fluoridation

As Natural News has been reporting for years, and as new science continues to support such claims, water fluoridation may cause a variety of health problems, including lowered IQs, hypothyroidism and increased risks for certain cancers.

About 50 percent of all fluoride ingested is stored in the body, accumulating in tissues such as teeth, bones and the pineal gland in the brain, according to Richard Wiles, co-founder of the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a research organization based in Washington, D.C.

One of the most recent studies documenting the adverse health effects of water fluoridation comes from the University of Kent, a public research university in the United Kingdom.

Scientists studied data obtained from nearly every medical practice in England and discovered that fluoride may be increasing the risk for hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland fails to produce enough hormones, resulting in symptoms such as fatigue, obesity and depression.

Published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, the study included the largest population ever analyzed in relation to the adverse health effects caused by water fluoridation.

Because an underactive thyroid is known to cause depression, weight gain, fatigue and aching muscles, the study showed that nearly 15,000 people could be unnecessarily suffering from these symptoms due to fluoride being added to the water.

New science showing adverse health effects of fluoride further implicates the government in the mass water fluoridation scandal

With this new information, it makes adding fluoride to the water without informed consent even more criminal.

More than 95% accurate, this early detection cancer test could save your life without the risk of radiological screenings

CancerCell.jpg

by: Julie Wilson

The second leading cause of death, cancer kills more than half a million people annually, while the cancer drug industry rakes in $100 billion each year while simultaneously causing more cancer.

However, this wouldn’t be the case if the cancer treatment industry was more interested in curing and preventing cancer than it is in simply just treating it.

The good news is that there are alternatives for preventing and curing cancer, although information on this can be difficult to access, as it’s routinely suppressed by the medical establishment and their paid-for media, who’s not interested in providing “care” unless it’s profitable or generates repeat business.

One of the greatest tools in beating cancer is early detection, and no, this does not mean you should include radiological imaging as part of your annual checkup, as that can cause more cancer.

However, a little known test called the AMAS test, or the Anti-Malignan Antibody Serum test, is incredibly beneficial for cancer screening and monitoring. The best part? It’s relatively inexpensive and over 95% accurate.

Developed by the brainchild of neurochemist Samuel Bogoch, M.D., Ph.D., the AMAS test “definitively determines whether or not cancer is present” by testing for anti-malignin antibodies, which are produced by all cancers.

The Real Reason Why The AMA Wants To Destroy Homeopathy

Source: NaturalNews.com
By: Jonathan Landsman

Why does Western medicine hate homeopathy? Since the 1800s, conventionally-trained medical doctors have been taught that homeopathy is quackery, even ‘devilish.’ Mind you, these are the same people that thought bloodletting, leeches, mercury and lead were good to “treat” disease conditions.

A sinister plan to suppress the truth.
Since the 1800s, despite its popularity among the most respected people in society, the American Medical Association (AMA) has done everything it can to wipe out homeopathy. On the next NaturalNews Talk Hour, Jonathan Landsman, and Ronald Whitmont, M.D. talk about how homeopathic remedies can help to resolve infections plus many other chronic disease conditions.

The world’s elite praise the value of homeopathy, while the masses receive toxic drugs

Talking about homeopathy, John D. Rockefeller once said it’s “a progressive and aggressive step in medicine.” In fact, J.D. Rockefeller took many homeopathic remedies throughout his later years. Maybe that’s why he lived to a ripe old age of 97 – despite having many health issues. Unfortunately, thanks to the Flexner Report and the destructive efforts of the AMA, all homeopathic colleges were wiped out by 1950 and most U.S. citizens know little about its healing potential.

For nearly 200 years, advocate like William James, Daniel Webster, Britain’s Royal Family, Charles Dickens, Wolfgang Goethe and Pope Pius X supported the health benefits of homeopathy. But, never mind all that, the agenda of Western medicine is clear: Convince a gullible public that suppressing (and treating) symptoms with toxic drugs are “better” than looking at the cause of disease.

Thankfully, the public is waking up. And, homeopathy is growing (again) in popularity. Don’t forget to join us for a great show about natural remedies that work!

The dark side of modern medicine: How the Flexner Report destroyed homeopathy in the United States

Simply put, oil tycoon J.D. Rockefeller was determined to control the pharmaceutical industry and ‘modern’ medicine – but, first, he had to get rid of the competition such as, naturopathy, homeopathy, herbalists or any other physician associated with holistic medicine. To do this: Rockefeller funded Andrew Flexner to create the “Flexner Report” – by 1910.

In this bogus report, Flexner visited all the medical schools in the United States and determined that we had ‘too many’ physicians and medical schools. Ultimately, in a classic strategy of “problem, reaction, solution” – Rockefeller (through his media connections) generated enough public outcry to motivate Congress to declare the AMA – the only group authorized to grant medical school licenses in the U.S.
