Blacklisted Health Book Soars To NY Times Best-Seller Status Via Grassroots Support

Titled, A Mind of Your Own: The Truth About Depression and How Women Can Heal Their Bodies To Reclaim Their Lives, and authored by our advisory board member, holistic psychiatrist Kelly Brogan, MD, we reported on the blacklisting of her book in an article published last week titled, Why Is The Media So Afraid of This Woman’s Work?

Since then, A Mind Of Your Own soared to #20 in Amazon’s 8.8 million title inventory, selling out within only two days of its March 15th launch date.  Then, yesterday, it broke through all three of the top best selling book lists: USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly, and #10 on the prestigious NY Times bestsellers list’s most hard to crack category: Advice, How-To, Misc.

Learn more about the book and the program that teaches how to implement the information.

What is especially amazing about the book’s near overnight success, is that not a single copy was sold due to exposure via mainstream TV, radio, print and online publishing, or social media outlets, i.e. it was a 100% organic process.

Clearly, Dr. Brogan’s powerful and uncompromising message (that you can heal your mind and body without drugs) resonated deeply with tens of thousands who bought her book, and have never been exposed to this information before.  How did they hear about it? They discovered it through newsletter lists like our own, organic social media reach, and word of mouth through trusted friends and family — the old fashioned way.

Get complimentary access to the 1st chapter, “Decoding Depression” here.

Truly, how could it have happened any other way? Major media outlets like the New York Times, Dr. Oz., Good Morning America, share one thing in common: their primary funders the very pharmaceutical industry Brogan’s book exposes, and without which they would not be in business. It is highly poetic, therefore, that some of these same major media outlets who blacklisted the book were forced to acknowledge its popularity and relevance on their own best-sellers lists. Could this symbolize how, given the powerful new grassroots influence of social media, major media outlets who collude to silence the truth are now falling on their own swords?

And so, Dr. Brogan’s book was doubly validated. First, for the very reason that its message was universally ignored, and even threatened with negative press, it gained authenticity in the hearts and minds of those who know that truly transformative messages do not make it through major media’s traditional “success filters.”

Second, because the book had zero synthetic exposure and “fertilizer,” its success stands as testimony to the power of our eco-system of informed and engaged of alternative health professionals and enthusiasts, a powerful force to be reckoned with.  Even though the pharmaceutical industry’s advertising dollar powerfully influences the programming agenda of an entire global network of media outlets and influence, it could not silence the voice of an informed, engaged, and compelled public.

The grassroots driven success of Dr. Brogan’s book says a lot about the power of the internet and social media to foster the continued, now light-speed democratization of information, as well as to challenge the process of validation through which we arrive at the measure of a “book’s success.”

The entire point of Dr. Brogan’s book was never to attain mainstream validation by being on best-sellers lists. It was to get her invaluable information into the hands of the many who need it. From Dr. Brogan’s own words:

I wasn’t certain it mattered to me to be acknowledged by mainstream outlets because my primary goal is to get the information in #amindofyourown into the hands that need it. That said, landing on the Bestseller list on the NY Times AND USA Today is pretty awesome considering what is IN this book. And it’s awesome because we got the word out TOGETHER. Feeling the love and the promise for change.”

For those who want to be part of this incredible grassroots movement to spread the truth about mental illness, and how the mind and body can heal itself without drugs, get updates on the book, and join the campaign to create organic social media exposure by buying a copy at your local book store, take a selfie, and share it with the growing community on Facebook. Organic Food Vastly More Nutritious Than Genetically Modified Food: Huge New Science Study Reveals The Differences

GMO food

Proponents of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) purport that there is no real difference between organic and non-organic foods, since both are molded by the hands of man. Once the surface of non-organic food is scratched and the layers are pealed back, however, the nutritional quality unearthed is by no means similar to whole organic food. That is at least what the largest study thus far comparing organic to non-organic animal products suggests.

The study reviewed more than 200 scientific papers, which examined the difference between organic and non-organic milk and meat products. The researchers found that organic meat and milk products had far higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids in comparison to non-organic contenders.

The human body can produce most fats from raw ingredients and other fat. This isn’t true with respect to omega-3 fatty acids, however. They are essential fats, meaning the body cannot produce them by itself but must obtain them from food. The human brain is largely made up of omega-3 fatty acids, meaning organic food is literally brain food.

It is of course no secret that organic food has better nutritional quality than non-organic food. For years, however, GMO proponents have purported that there is no real difference between the two. Those who peddle this tired argument will have to resort to other lines of reasoning to justify their eating habits, as it flies in the face of the most current scientific research.

“People choose organic milk and meat for three main reasons: improved animal welfare, the positive impacts of organic farming on the environment, and the perceived health benefits,” said Carlo Leifert from Newcastle University, who headed the study. “But much less is known about impacts on nutritional quality, hence the need for this study.”

Comparing apples to plastic oranges

To analyze the difference between the two products, the researchers examined 170 peer reviewed papers on a host of animal products, like cheese, butter and milk, as well as 67 papers on various meats, making it unprecedented in this respect. The results of the study were published in the British Journal of Nutrition.

The team found that organic meats had on average 47 percent more omega-3 fatty acids than non-organic meats; and organic milk products had on average 56 percent more omega-3 fatty acids than non-organic milk products.

What is responsible for this difference? The researchers did not look for a specific cause, but suggest the way in which organic animals are raised and the amount of grass they consume bear some responsibility. It should be emphasized that these results were not bound to organic food, however, but encompassed any products grown without pesticides and fertilizers.

“Differences in content such as fatty acids or iodine occur primarily because organic animals are fed more of a forage-based diet, such as grass, than their non-organic counterparts,” Ian Givens, a professor of nutrition at the University of Reading, who wasn’t involved in the research, told sources. “You get the same kind of changes in food composition if non-organic animals are fed forage-rich diets too. It’s the choice of feed, not the organic farming method, which makes the difference.”

It should also be noted that organic milk had 14 percent less of the adult daily iodine requirement than non-organic milk. Those who choose to consume only whole organic products should make sure that they meet their daily iodine needs. High quality iodine supplements are available here.

Although the analysis focused on the abundance of omega-3 fatty acids, a separate comprehensive scientific analysis found that organic food has more antioxidants associated with better health than conventional food, as well as lower levels of toxic metals and pesticides.

Teeming with antioxidants

The latter study was published in the same respected scientific journal, the British Journal of Nutrition, which analyzed 343 peer-reviewed studies from across the globe. At the time, it was the largest study to analyze the difference between organic and non-organic fruits, vegetables and cereals.

Professor Carlo Leifert at the Newcastle University, who led the study, found that there is a, “statistically significant, meaningful” difference between organic and non-organic food, the former of which had 19 to 69 percent more antioxidants than the latter.

According to the team, the increased levels of antioxidant are on par with, “one to two of the five portions of fruits and vegetables recommended to be consumed daily and would therefore be significant and meaningful in terms of human nutrition, if information linking these [compounds] to the health benefits associated with increased fruit, vegetable and whole grain consumption is confirmed.”

Always Buy Food Locally & Organic: 75% Of High-Profile Honey Brands Contain No Honey

Honey, often referred to as “liquid gold,” houses a wide range of vitamins and minerals. It is a natural and healthier alternative to sugar to sweeten things up. It kills bacteria, viruses and fungi. It also lowers cholesterol and inflammation.

However, to reap all of honey’s benefits, you should always buy local and organic, which comes from bees rather than from a factory. According to Food Safety News, more than 75 percent of honey sold in U.S. grocery stores isn’t actually the same thing honey bees produce.

They sent over 60 different jars bought in 10 states and the District of Columbia to premier melissopalynologist and professor at Texas A&M University, Vaughn Bryant. They found the market to be flooded with fake Indian or Chinese honey which is banned in Europe for safety reasons. It is often contaminated with antibiotics or heavy metals, and doesn’t contain any trace of pollen.

“Any product that’s been ultra-filtered and no longer contains pollen isn’t honey,” states the FDA. However, nothing seems to be done about it, and fake, processed honey is still sold in grocery stores all over the U.S.

Ultra-filtered honey

In the normal honey-making process, honey is filtered to remove contaminants, such as bee parts, waxes and other impurities. Nothing wrong there; nobody wants to chew on bee parts or wax, right?

Ultra-filtration, a technique refined by the Chinese, is a high-tech procedure in which honey is heated and pushed through extremely fine filters at high pressure. This technique not only removes contaminants, but pushes out the pollen and many other beneficial vitamins, minerals and enzymes, too.

Why would a company go through all these expensive filtration steps to end up with an inferior product, ripped of all its nutrients?

“Removal of all pollen from honey ‘makes no sense’ and is completely contrary to marketing the highest quality product possible,” Mark Jensen, president of the American Honey Producers Association, told Food Safety News.

Farmers Can Receive Grants to Move to Organic Farming

Transition will ditch GMOs and toxic chemicals

Two Midwestern states in the U.S. are offering farmers three years of support to move to organic crop production. Farmers would ditch GMOs along with their toxic pesticides and herbicides. The aim is to boost acreage of organically-grown crops in the U.S. once the upper Midwest is well on its way to sustainable farming.

North Dakota and Minnesota have both started grant programs. Minnesota led the way in 2013 and North Dakota began its program this year. The grants, ranging from $750 to $1000, help farmers to transition to organic crops. The money can be used for everything from soil testing to education on how to grow food in a sustainable way.

The new programs disallow using chemicals. Farmers who are switching from mainstream to organic farming practices will learn how to grow crops without using chemicals.

Why Coconut Oil is a Healthy Fat

Source: IHealthTube.com
February 3, 2016

[Editor’s Note]
As someone who has Coconut Oil [at minimum twice] daily, can certainly vouch for the benefits of this oil.  It can be used in many ways, although the pure, 100% Organic, extra-virgin kind is the best type.  Some of the other ones are refined, which ameliorates the potency of Coconut Oil’s nutritional benefits.  Don’t fall for that.

A great book that covers the great benefits of Coconut Oil is, The Coconut Oil Miracle, by Bruce Fife.  It’s chock full of data that back up the claims made by countless folks in alternative health circles.  Its definitely worth considering.

Coconut oil is also great for Oil Pulling as well, which is an ancient practice that can improve oral health, reduce plague, bacteria, mouth infections & whitens teeth as well.

A  book that covers that rather well is another book by Bruce Fife called Oil Pulling Therapy – Detoxifying & Cleaning The Body Through Oral Cleansing.

——————-

Coconut oil has saturated fat, and we’ve been lead to believe that saturated fats are bad. But Dr. Bruce Fife explains the difference in the saturated fat found in coconut oil. He discusses how those fats are healthy for the body and how other saturated fats found in meats for example, are not as healthy.
